.45 Colt with a 20" barrel. Very little info available online for loading these (except for cas shooting). I'd really like to use this rifle for deer season but am hitting a brick wall with my search for optimum performance. If anyone has some solid online resource to forward, it would be greatly appreciated. All I can find is statements like "weak toggle link design, buy a '92."

Seriously, it is a "weak toggle design", and if you want to go +P or higher, go with a M92 like the Puma. Stick with "Standard" (14K PSI) loads with this gun.

Plenty of deer have been taken with a M1873 in 45 Colt. I'd go with a heavier bullet (250 grs or so) and stick to 100 yds or less. Your muzzle velocity with a rifle will only be 1000-1100 fps, and these bullets have the ballistics of a tin can (but hurt you when hit by them).
Thanks, I understand all of that, and actually had checked out the site you linked. I also understand that using this rifle/cartridge combo limits me somewhat. However, I'm kind of stuck with a stupid fascination for "old timey" rifles, so the 1873 is what I'm using.
I'm definitely not the most experienced hand loader, I started out pressing ammo for my .45 Colt Vaquero using 250 gr cast and Trailboss (because of its reputation for being relatively idiot-proof). I typically go overboard when setting up for something, so I've got pails and pails of the stuff.
Given that fact, I'd like to use what I've got. The problem is, I'm having a hard time finding actual consumer results with this particular combination of powder/bullet/rifle/application.
I guess my original post wasn't worded properly, what I'd like to know is this: does anyone here have some experience using an 1873 replica (in .45) for medium-big game hunting? And what ammo recipe did you successfully brew up?

I think you're trying to ask your question a different way to get a different answer. This firearm is not suited to loads that Push the Uberti 1873 Rifle.
I would look at the Hodgdon 250gr 45 Colt data with HS-6 or Black Powder and keep the ranges for big game short, or try a different vintage firearm/cartridge if more power is what you need. You might find the .45/70 is another option.
