Python sales cooling off?

^Laugh2 Says the Colt owner! Chill out, I don't have a {ahem} pony in the race...just sayin' I'd buy 3 new Smith and Wessons (also hand fit btw) for the price of one used Colt. If that's your thing, ok. If that's your thing due to a television show about zombies...weird, but whatever.

$1,000 revolver? Yep, all day. Is it a $4,000-$5,000 dollar revolver? Fu<k no.

I often get a giggle when all the Capitalists are all about "Let the market dictate"...so long as the market works in their favour!?
..... please.

I'm a huge Colts fan and my love started with the snake guns. I think I purchased one of the last new Anaconda's to come into Canada in 2004. I've had many Pythons and Anaconda's and still have a nice little collection of snake guns but I find my tastes have since evolved to other Colts like the OMM, the 357, SAA and their 1911's. My OMM .22 I'm sure would outshoot my Diamondback (if I could ever bring myself to even shoot the Diamondback) and the action on my 1954 357 is better than any of the many Pythons that I've owned. I wonder if all these Python buyers will go through the same experience I have and maybe we'll see some of the prices of these other models start rising sharply. Or I wonder if the majority of people's infatuation starts and ends with the Python?

I certainly agree with you about the older Colts. I have a 3-5-7, a Trooper MK V, two .22's (OMT and OMM) and a New Service in .455. I enjoy shooting all of them. The same holds true for my S&W's. I have a K38 Masterpiece from the 50's that is a joy to shoot.

I wonder if the question shouldn't be "are Pythons priced too high?" but rather "why are other classic revolvers priced so low?"

Or maybe " Why aren't S&W's flying off the shelves at current retail?"

Did you even read MauserMike's reply? The Python requires extensive hand fitting and finishing, and all the skilled craftsmen who made them have long since retired. It would cost thousands each to produce and probably take years just to set up.

Yes I did, I believe this story to be complete poppycock from the manufacturer. Labourers can hand produce with basic hand tools fine quality firearms, They do so commonly all over the world.

modern milling allows for electronic precision crafting of all metal parts. A Autocad file is really all thats required to produce whatever gunparts that are needed. Who's to say a modern python needs to be hand milled by a craftsman beyond finishing work. Maybe the walking dead licence was too expensive, that I would believe. Still a missed opportunity.

Philhut, have you ever worked on a python, there is only so much a machine can do.
I was going through a bunch of old American rifleman last night , 2015 and they where
talking about this, they had a trading price fore the snake guns from 1960 to 2015. Python new in box increase 14,300% increase (BTW, SAA is a poor 2100%, $120 to $2750)
Night Hawk was thinking about bringing back the Python, but they figured smarter to import KORTH.
I may be a old fart , but I can't believe that the walking dead crap would have any effect on the collectors
that are paying 30,000 for a set of Boa's
My nicest shooting gun is 4 in 357, that I just picked up at the last Saskatoon gun show cheap: or a 4in s-w 19.2, the smith has a action job, so it is about the same.
I had a 4 in diamond back 22 years ago and it did nothing at all for me.
I guess my prices last few years have been too low.

A local place had a Double Diamond 150th edition recently, might still have it. Is 11k feasible or are they gonna price themselves out of the market? it was made in 86, grips look like rosewood, six inch barrel and all stainless steel. They claim it comes with original packaging and paperwork.

If there is a demand, sellers can demand what the market can bear.

furbys, tickle me elmos, beanie babies, etc.... now what are they worth?

I love the look of a Python, I had a Colt Trooper MKV that I stupidly sold as it was a gorgeous pistol...I think that the Python is overpriced and I've heard that some Pythons have timing issues...So I'd hate to put out 2 to 3 or 4 grand for a pistol that may have issues down the road..However they are good looking pistols.

I would like to introduce into the mix the new Kimber revolver. Not ever making revolvers, Kimber brought their 2" 357 mag 6 shot revolver to the market 2 years ago with great success. If Kimber can bring an entirely new revolver to the market, COLT can reproduce the Python. Use the King Cobra action, investment cast the frame and just machine the barrel. All under U$1000.00.

It could happen. Meanwhile, Python prices appear to have peaked, high priced sellers are not selling, and most revolver competitors continue to shun this gun.

Because the really knowledgeable S&W owners aim for certain markets to, such as old time pre-Bangor-Punta ownership.

Sometimes this is totally unavoidable if one desires a certain target model or a specific chambering, such as the 25-2 or a stainless 44 Special or 44 magnum.
But all the rest of my S&Ws are 1930s and 1940s vintage.

^Bingo to that! Bought the Colt Model 3-5-7, one Anaconda & (an antique!)1873 SAA. All for the asking price of just one Python!! Best Buy pricing!!! ;)

Hopefully if and when Colt does do another run of revolvers it will include the Anaconda. I was contemplating one 20+ years ago when they suddenly dried up. Wouldn't make that mistake again...

Uhm, otherwise nice King Cobra tooted in 357, Even a snubbie? Canada, who cares anyways, not importable right? Better off in 44 Special, 45 Long Colt or 41 magnum I think so myself. Too much extra gun metal for that small bore magnum. Thinking a King Cobra reintroduced again in 357 would flopp over in sales, just like it did before & who invests in a sales disaster once again??

not smart investors

Colt is introducing a new Cobra. It's little more than a SF-VI/DS-II, which was designed specifically for mass production and the quality reflected it.

I love those pythons. however, the only model I desire is the 4 inch model, nickel or blued matter little. it is good to dream. got to love the laws in this land of the oppressed.
