Python sales cooling off?

Pyhtons and the housing market seem to be related some how.

I'd love to have one of these gems. but I can't justify the amount being asked. I'm not a collector either so there are no "safe queens" making it hard when all these pieces seem to be near mint.

Guess that political climate and economical instability also affects the value of firearms. There are exceptions of course but the gun business of both new/used, dealer/private sales has been negatively affected in the last 18 months or so.

There was definitely a bit of a bubble driven by a few collectors willing pay premiums. Seemed those same collectors started selling off and the market appropriately adjusted. It is not like the prices have fallen through the floor though - maybe a 10-20% hit depending on the model.

The Python is a great looking gun, but I don't find them as "shootable" (is that a word?) as my Smith revolvers and I buy my guns to shoot, not look at. If someone offered me a 4" Python for $400 I would probably grab it, but that is all one is worth to me.

Some firearm you just dont mind paying a huge price, for me the Python is not one of them... JP.

^Agreed. One can buy an Anaconda for a lot less & you have much more juice at beck and call.

While I've owned numerous Anacondas in both .44 Mag and .45 Colt the S&W's in the same calibers are a notch above IMO. The Anaconda is comparable to the King Cobra for fit and finish but not in the same league as the Python.

No revolver collection is complete without a Python. Can't say the same 'bout any S&W model, 'cept maybe a "Dirty Harry" 29

That's right, even though my .357 Smith & Wesson's offers better ergonomics none will match the accuracy of my '57 Python. The picture says it all.

I've never been overly enamoured with the Python and would opt for the cheaper 44 colt, but to be fair, the Anaconda is a King Cobra, and a far cry from the Python. Anacondas and King Cobras have probably benefited the most from the Python craze as many don't know or appreciate the difference.

$400....WTF.....Yeah and I will pay no more then $10k for a 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S Turbo....

Maybe one day Norinco will make a knock off Python with visible tool marks, uneven rough finish , un-indexed barrel , gritty trigger, misaligned sights with timing and lockup issues......Then you might find one for $400.....High round count and in USED condition...until then you are SOL! You could not even find a desperate crackhead to sell you a stolen Colt Python in rough shape for $400.

The good Python is worth every penny people ask for them.....I can attest to that. You cannot find anything "New" even close for the money..Shooter or Collector grade. The old Smith's i.e M29 and 27 , 28 etc.. are $1500 to $2000 and they are a steal right now at those prices. The Smith's can be great and shoot quick but the Pythons are in a different league and like real estate god is not making anymore, hence the high prices. Back in the day late 80's early 90's a Python would retail for $799 Blue/Stainless to $1299 BSTS, at the same time Korth's were $1499. Today new production Korths's are $5000 plus and retailers like Al Flaherty's sell out fast when they get stock. Proving the pricing on used new condition Python's is spot on, all things considered.

I don't buy all this Walking Dead BS.....I bought my Python because officer Frank Dooley rocked one.......years before anyone heard of Rick Grimes.....

Apples to turnips. At the end of the day a 4" python is a prohibited item destined for the smelter within a generation as 6" python barrels for rebarreling a gun are not a common item. Anyone can own the car.

Yeah, I was not considering the prohib Pythons. In Canada a guy with prohib status can score a nice Python for probably less then the going "stolen" value......Sad. That 4" barrel length thing is just pure stupidity, and something that should have changed in the previous government, along with other things. We need a new common sense firearms act....desperately.

Can prohib's be de-registered and sent to the USA or elsewhere? 4" Python's have a high value everywhere else in the world. To think of a Python being sent in for destruction is horrifying.
