Quality of Turkish made shotguns?

I've recently become interested in the swarm of semi auto AR style shotguns coming out of Turkey. Since many of them seem to bear striking similarities to one another, I was hoping someone could enlighten me as to which company's are producing the highest quality offerings. I've been looking primarily at the Derya MK12, Utas XTR-12 etc.

Not "black or green" but I have on the shelf an ATA Arms CY series shotgun sitting right next to a Weatherby SA-08.

Both are the camo pattern stocks and save the Weatherby on the receiver (ATA on the other) and the location of the serial number you can not see a single difference between the two - and I mean "no difference" until you get to the price tag - the Wby is $300 "more expensive".

If I put a Khan beside the pump Winchester's you could say the same as above.

I figure if either of those mfg's are good enough for Weatherby and Winchester to put their names on they can't be too bad...

I just bought a Derya Mk12. I have to say the quality of the firearm itself is pretty good. The accessories that it comes with are not high quality, all the sights are plastic, sling is garbage...it's what I would expect for the price point. I expressly bought this to use in the USA for Open class in shotgun and multigun matches, so immediately applied for a Form 6, so am waiting until that happens before I shoot it.

I've tried a buddies Derya...I was actually impressed! I thought the whole idea of an "AR" style shotgun seemed very gimmicky and would probably suck. It shot well, has a decent trigger and after having shot an AR-15 for a few years, it was quick to pick up and learn it.

They appear to be nicely made, shoot softly for a shotty and I walked away thinking it was a lot of fun. The only drawbacks we could find was how the bolt released too easily after being tossed on a table with the action locked open. The magazine's can also be overinserted, causing malfunctions. I'd just make a basepad that wouldn't allow overinsertion, if it was mine...slam it home! ;)

I'd consider purchasing one.

I ordered the Derya MK-12, tracking shows it should be here tomorrow and I'll be giving it a cleaning and running some rounds through it as soon as I get home. I had it narrowed down to the MK-12, the Typhoon F-12 or the Aksal MKA1919. I almost went with the 1919 but figured they were all pretty much the same and the MK-12 comes with 3 mags and a bunch of cheap sights.

I have a derya mk10 and i love it, i have almost 1000 target loads and probably 250 buckshot down it with out issue, maybe 5 stove pipes in the first 10 rounds, then after that no issues at all since then. Im very surprized at how well it works and how nice it feels for 600$ all aluminum other then the pistol grip and but stock, and any ar15 grip and butt will work on it.

The Turkish products are good quality for the most part, my issue will be if there are parts available, everything breaks, that's a given, sooner or later we will need parts!

... and this is exactly why I no longer bother with the Turkish stuff.

Started to go down this road (because it's decent stuff for the price) but lack of parts is a real concern. As always, it's impossible to beat the 870 when it comes to parts & accessory availably if that is a major concern to you.

I got a couple Mossberg for a great price on sale years ago, so just kept buying them, very smooth running machines like the 870, and parts are not a problem! If the Remus were on sale then, I probably would have a bunch of them instead!

I've decided the same type of route bobdbldr, 590a1s & 870's

Like the idea of having what I need on hand to keep things running if need be.

Only SG I have outside of these two classics is a 14" Fabarm. Fantastic shotgun but it's going on the E&E one of these days when I get around to it. Hate to part with it but I'm sticking to my decision of the reliable classics.

So would you think the parts are interchangeable?

Had mixed experience with Turkish guns.
First was a Dagger SAP6 and it was pure junk.
After using the ranges Hatsan pump and a CGN sponsor having them on dirt cheap I purchased one. Works like a champ with no issues.
Just purchased a Derya MK12 and put 100 slugs through it with out any issues. The quality looks pretty good on it.
If their ever was a need for a life and death defensive situation I still would grab my Fabarm or older 870 just in case.

So would you think the parts are interchangeable?

A few retailers in other threads had talked about how there's basically one or two suppliers for each of some various parts, stocks, barrels, etc. The assembly factories all order their parts from these same people, but they will usually make slight tweaks for different "brands" to make it so their stuff can't fully interchange with other brands.

The consensus is that pretty well all Turkish buttstocks will interchange with each other (with some exceptions) forends and mag tube caps, etc generally interchange with similar threads on them.

On the other hand it seems that they usually have variations of bolts/barrel/recievers, which make them (usually) brand specific. You may get some matches between some brands, but it's hard to say ahead of time.

Little things like extractors and such I haven't heard much on one way or another.

So you can pretty well swap stocks and accessories, but you're (likely) stuck with the guts of the gun how you originally got it.

Bought an Adler lever action shotgun... Action was stiff, failed to extract shells after the 2 round. Sent it back in exchange for a SAP 6. It ejected the shells weakly even with vigurous sliding of the action. And failed to empty a mag without having atleast one jam. After 252 rnds the entire top rail fell off! Pure garbage. Swore never to buy a Turkish brand shotgun again.

Just recently a buddy decides to buy a 1919 match. We take it to the range with 4 boxes of challenger trap loads, and 4 separate magazines..... It has a FTF atleast once per make mag. Literally a 100% failure rate lol. Maybe it will be sorted out with the seller, and the gun will work fine after that.... But seriously? The 3rd $1000 turkish shotgun with a 100% failure rate I've witnessed from the box!

The way I see it, maybe 10 or 15 years from now the majority of them will be decent provided they continue to improve, but until then, I'll generally avoid them.
