I had a 2.5" barrel antique Bulldog in 450 Adams. Roughly 250lbs of energy with a 220gr projectile. It had a hideous grip that only let me get a finger and a half for a hold. It was ridiculous with kick. Thought I was going to split my head open with the front sight. That was with factory loads that were 262gr and a lot hotter. About 300lbs of energy. I reload now and make much softer loads than that for my Webley RIC (200gr). Both are in this picture. Both same cal.

I sold the smaller Bulldog and kept the RIC. Now thinking of getting a Webley MP in the same cal. Would have a barrel like the Bulldog but a grip like the RIC but just a 1/4" shorter. Like this -

With the experience of you 12(6) folk and your shooting of short barrel revolvers, could you chime in what one would expect for kick from a Webley MP. Think 2" snub nose 38 ish.

Thanks
Moe

.38 Special standard loads through my 2" 20 ounce SW M12 Airweight are very pleasant.

For sure the grip makes all the difference. I have a S&W Model 37 Airweight, and I find it punishing to shoot with the tiny factory wood grips (mostly from the back of the trigger guard hitting my middle finger). I put the small Pachmayr grip on in and it's far more comfortable, plus the grip fills in the space behind the trigger guard.

Based on the look of that Webley, getting your middle finger knuckle rapped by the trigger guard might be the biggest issue shooting it.

I had an Alfa Proj in 357 that had that issue. It beat my middle finger knuckle badly. I eventually sold it and got a S&W 586 with Hogue rubber mono grip to save eliminate that issue. My RIC bothered me the same way while I had the AP but once I went to the S&W I didn't notice the RIC rapping my knuckle anymore.

However, this MP being a slightly shorter grip, much shorter barrel, and therefore lighter, could be a return of knuckle masochism.

JMB's designs make these Euro trash revolvers so unsophisticated.

OK but these were invented in 1867. JMB was only 12 so I don't think he had any successful handguns yet. I also can't take any JMB handguns to the camp, fishing, hunting or hiking.
I CAN take these "Euro trash revolvers" as they are antiques. I have plenty of restricted handguns. Let's keep this post on topic.

Thank you! A CGNer PMed me and is sourcing one for me. Love this site!

Hope you enjoy your new antique Moe! Let us know how it really shoots.

Thanks. I just made the commitment with a down payment on the gun in question. I plan to keep the loads light to reduce knuckle pain from the trigger guard. Really stoked.
