How many rounds are you fellas getting out of your AR's before you have to tear them down and clean 'em?

I know ya gotta run these things wet... but how 'wet'? Hells bells, I oiled up my AR the way that Miculek guy says on YouTube - and he burns up as much ammo as all you guys plus some - and I started having issues with the bolt holding open on the last shot in well under 100 rounds. Is that normal...? I would think the run n' gun crowd would insist on at least a couple hundred rounds worth of reliability before having to clean...?

I'm going to cut back the oil a bit for now, I took brake cleaner to my bolt group to get the carbon off and hopefully there'll be a little less fouling now...

Less oil is the wrong answer. You can't over lube the gun to failure, you can over lube the gun to the yucky gross level. I have to ask what brand of gun, what setup and what ammo?

I'm not sure the round count between cleanings for my AR's but somewhere in the several hundred range, and not because they need it(stoppages etc) but because I don't like looking at the dirty things.

The setup your running will affect how many rounds you can reliably go through, as mentioned before, and the environment will also affect it. There are a lot of contributing factors to why your gun will or won’t continue to cycle, and it could be component related as much as round count or nature’s elements. As part of a group of guys that are hard on their AR’s, we run stock colts and stags and typically shoot 3-400 rnds per day - they start to get pretty tight and have the occasional stoppage from being dirty towards the end. Basic tips, use a lot of oil, and even better use frog lube with a heat gun. We field strip and clean ours at the end of every long shooting day, but even then every guy does it a little different and with more or less ocd than the next guy. (2 cents)

Post your setup, that will help.

2500 rounds before I cleaned. All I did was squirt g96 into bolts gas ports and around the upper. Ran the bolt three times and done.

I ended up cleaning before storing my rifle for 6 months.

Colt Canada ftw

I run mine really wet.
I do clean it fairly regularly but have gone 600 rounds without any stoppages numerous times.

Rifle: LMT upper / RRA lower

Meh, 3-4 K rounds if I feel like it. And I usually dont. lol...

Im running a test with my X95, I want to see how many years / rounds it takes before I get stoppages.

I clean every 1000 rounds or more. I run them pretty wet using Seal 1 on all my firearms. I usually don't see any failures below or after 1000 rounds.

Are you running frog lube by any chance?

FWIW, I ran my 14.5" BCM mid length through the 3 day version of the Veritac MWOST course. 900 rounds of the cheapest, dirtiest 62gr Barnul FMJ I could get my hands on. No cleaning, ran like a top.

Have to agree, we need more specs on what you're running.

Rifle
Ammo
Mags
Better description of the failures you're seeing

Answer these and we can be a little more direct with a resolution but I can guarantee it's not a lubrication issue.
