I participated in the Father's Day Monster Shoot in Cranbrook this past weekend.
One of the competitors was using a Colt 1911, Caspian Slide, Muzzle brake, chambered in 38 super. If the gun is stovepiping a round, that needs to be cleared by manually racking the slide, is this a sign that the recoil spring is on it's way out? or does it need a heavier spring?

Anyhow, I only made it 500 of the 600 rounds due to time constraints, but on the whole, it was pretty darn fun. I did hit 2 no shoots (darn, notify next of kin of the hostages) and had some trouble with my safety. The 'Gold Custom' safety seems to rock in my hands a little while shooting. More than once I found myself pulling the trigger with nothing happening. the thumb would rock the safety just enough to catch! Lesson learned, I will order a new standard safety, and install it.

On a brighter note, I did show my mother the videos of the event, and she is now interested in attending a match or two, possibly even trying her hand at it.
Go Mom! Even at her age she still surprises me at times.

put your thumb on top of the safety, then it wont hit it on when shooting. thats what i was taught anyhow

This is a pic of the current safety. I think because of the 'peak' in the safety shooting right handed I am pivoting a little when the gun kicks.

I think I want to get this one.

I have the same safety on my tanfoglio limited custom .40....I removed the right side lever. 99% of IPSC shooting usually is with my right hand,..so that safety is not needed. I used to flip up the safety with my trigger finger during mag changes,( I would accidentally press it up when my finger came up to rest on the slide/frame)

Your thumb should ALWAYS be on the thumb safety.

When you removed the lever, are you talking about the lower 'ramp'?

If you can post a pic that would be most helpful.

STRANGE< I am 100% ambidextrous when it comes to shooting pistol. I am left and dominant in most things, and right eye dominant. Raquet Sports Left handed, Hockey Left handed, Baseball Switch hitter, Golf Right, Shotgunning Left if I tape my xdominant eye, or Right if I do not tape. Rifle, I shoot Left because the optics forces LH Eye to dominance.

The only reason I am shooting Right is that the rig has the holster on the right. Crossing over to weak side... well I don't really have a weak side. But mag changes are a PITA when shooting left single handed.

the right side (small lever) that is held in by a pin is the side I meant to remove. The safety won't fall out as it is kept in by the sear spring.

Here is an ugly stage for me... One thing I do plan on is adjusting my sights! On the end there is a steel 4 foot cirvle with a 12x8 rectangular opening to engage 4 staggered steel targets.
You can see a fellow come running with my range bag, as I had completely exhausted all my Mags! We did have to paint the black gong again afterwards.

Hey got to say this who allowed you to load your gun when you were sitting down in a chair. Not GOOD
You must all ways load when you are standing up not sitting, you can sweep yourself.

Just the second point Finger in your trigger when you made a mag change
Alao your mags are to far forward should stop at your hipbone.
and last you should be taking your mags from the first pouch on your belt and the work your way back.

PS if anyone has any pointers, be sure and post them up. Good or bad, I want to hear it all!

Sure, here's one - When you mag change, bring the gun back toward your eye and tilt it so you can see the magwell.
It's much easier (faster and more reliable) to get your mag in that way.

Stylin' pouches! :D

Part of the stage. Gun loaded, then on safe, and in holster. I hear you on the sweep thing though. I will ask next time I talk to the RO, thanks!
