I participated in the Father's Day Monster Shoot in Cranbrook this past weekend.
One of the competitors was using a Colt 1911, Caspian Slide, Muzzle brake, chambered in 38 super. If the gun is stovepiping a round, that needs to be cleared by manually racking the slide, is this a sign that the recoil spring is on it's way out? or does it need a heavier spring?
Anyhow, I only made it 500 of the 600 rounds due to time constraints, but on the whole, it was pretty darn fun. I did hit 2 no shoots (darn, notify next of kin of the hostages) and had some trouble with my safety. The 'Gold Custom' safety seems to rock in my hands a little while shooting. More than once I found myself pulling the trigger with nothing happening. the thumb would rock the safety just enough to catch! Lesson learned, I will order a new standard safety, and install it.
On a brighter note, I did show my mother the videos of the event, and she is now interested in attending a match or two, possibly even trying her hand at it.
Go Mom! Even at her age she still surprises me at times.
