I have a question for modern varmint owners. I'm interested in a MV for 3 gun, carbine course application...this means keeping weight down with CTR stock, Fortis foreend.

How much would such a build weigh with medium profile barrel vs. carbon fiber barrel???

I've read that the MV,with CFW barrel comes in under 7 lbs.

I should have mine tomorrow and will weigh it.
It will have a CTR stock and a KAC URX handguard, though.
The weights of each of the barrels are on ATRS website.

The CFW barrel weighs MORE than the light profile SS barrel and less than the medium contour SS barrel.
I am not sure the CFW barrel is the best option for high volume shooting as 3 gun shooting tends to be. Replacement barrels are considerably more expensive when using CFW barrels. Barrel life is about the same and most 3 gun shoots are relatively close range so the heat deflection that a light contour conventional barrel will suffer is minor.

CFW barrel is a good way to announce you are a "price pimp" at the range.

If you want a light barrel, go with a light profile barrel instead

Ya,it sounded like an insult.
I don't get why other guys are so concerned, with how other people spend their money.
I mean,WTF is it to ya?

Its the same as asking how much your rig cost. The old adage of "if you have to ask...." comes to mind. Why not simply find out by going onto our website and pricing it out? Oh cuz by posting the how much question gives more ammo to a person with an agenda. I just don't get some guys thought process.

My MV weighs 6 lbs 15 ounces.

And the CFW barrel is verrry nice and worth every penny.

I like to shoot a lot of rounds ,target and load development.
So heat was a concern.
Plus I wanted to keep the weight down.

If you can come up with $3200, then $900 more, shouldn't be that difficult.

OK.

So the CF wrapped barrel basically gives you the rigidity, and resistance to heat of a heavy barrel but with light weight. Best used for higher volume of fire in target and long range applications where any deviation may affect accuracy.

For 3 Gun, LW is way to go due to rapid fire at close range.

One question...will the LW still give accurate long range shots equal to heavier barrels, especially if you are only making a few shots (under 5) and allowing it to cool???

The light profile will be fine. I have light profile barrels on all my rifles and they are 1moa or better shooters with good factory ammo

Proof research claims their barrel cools faster as well. Mine doesn’t seem to stay hot as long as the heavy it replaced when I’m price pimpin’ at the range. It’s hard out here for a price pimp! But seriously it’s a nice touch, not necessary, but it makes me smile.
