Questions about double barrel shotguns...

If you are going for nostalgia and panache it would be hard to not advise you to buy a nice field grade and serviceable Browning Superposed.

Lots of cool factor, built well and will go bang every time you pull the trigger. If you want to shoulder one I have a few. Come to the double gun classic before buying anything.

Trust the guys on this thread like Ashcroft and Canvasback. I bought a gun from Ashcroft that has become my go to Woodcock gun and Canvasback helped me when I first posted years ago about buying a decent side by side. He and I have become great friends and hunt together and chat regularly. You should see my collection now because of him! ####....actually come to think of it dont come to the classic. RUN. your bank account will thank you!!!!

Hey guys, I want to thank everyone for their great advise here. I finally made a decision and bought a mint condition Franchi Instinct LX 12g, 3" chamber and 28" barrels from another CGN member. I am really looking forward to seeing it and cannot wait to hunt with it this fall. I went a little over and above the budget but hey just look at that wood, I couldn't resist. Thanks again...

I was about to post that 20G is very nice but for every 20 you will find at least a hundred 12G guns, and I see that happened. Huge advantage to a 12 is that shells are much easier to find in times like these, and in a much greater range of options. I do harken back to the days when every hardware and country store could and did sell ammunition, but it's still true.

Yeah I did look for a 20g for a long time and while I did see a few I couldn't pass up the Franchi once I saw it. It is 45" long and 7 pounds total so totally manageable for upland and ducks if needed. I have watched countless videos of guys hunting squirrels, rabbits and pigeon with 12g so I feel like I'll be good for now. I will tray to replenish my shotgun funds and look for a 20g sxs or even 28g in the future.

What are people's thoughts regarding the "made in Italy" Franchi Instinct vs the Turkish made guns from Huglu or Yildiz? Has anyone ever heard or shot a Fausti? How do they compare? Would you rather own a Italian or Turkish made shotgun? I'm sure Franchi and Beretta source the instinct out to other Italian manufacturers? It's by now means a Beretta.

I haven't shot the instinct but I've shot the Franchi aspire comparing 28ga guns I liked it more than huglus of which I own 3. I felt build quality was very similar and the Franchi carried slight tool marks whereas the huglus do not. The aspire is just trimmer in the stock and ever so slightly lighter feeling even with 2" longer barrels
I've handled several Fausti Conrad's which are their entry level gun and I like them but they lack the fit and finish of the aspire and huglu 103fe. The Fausti has wood that's very proud of the metal. I believe all 3 are decent hunting guns. The huglu is likely to have more figure in the wood. The Fausti being the plainest. I ended up buying an a400 in 28ga but will eventually end up buying a Fausti or huglu for pour weather or when I don't want to pick up hulls

The Franchi O/U’s are made by Bettinsoli. Not quite sure by what you mean by “made in Italy”. Quotes aren't needed as they are Italian made. There were some semi auto Franchi’s that were made in Spain, but I believe all the ones that were have been discontinued.

Ok u decided on over under. Find the cheapest decent make gun you can. Shoot 2000 rounds through it. Figure out what you like/dislike find that feature on your next gun this time spend a bit more money. Shoot 2000 rounds. You will with out a doubt have a favorite. Sell the other one. Repeat as many times as necessary. In theory this is sound advice. In reality I own 15 shotguns and counting lol

This whole "theory vs reality" thing seems quite common in this community...

LOL indeed

Slightly used and well taken care off Beretta 686 from late 80’s to early 2000’s.Best bang for buck, best made, better than they are now.
They swing and fit most folks better than other guns due to slim receiver and great balance.When/if you sell it, you will get your money back if you take care of the gun.

How about a 2010 Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon 2 in 12/28? I just picked up this beauty a few weeks ago.
