So, my rifle came with a 4x20 scope that is has a center line ~.75 above my receiver. It's comfortable and focused when I rest my top row of teeth on the stock of the rifle. I would like more power though!

I just got a 4-12x40 Bushnell Banner, but due to the end tube being over 2" dia. it has a centerline of 1.5" above my receiver and I am basically floating my head to have it focused. IF I found someway to remove the rear iron sight (pinned on) I could drop it another .5" with a new pair of rings.

Is this just what everyone is doing, maybe with a strap-on cheek riser? Is cheek a misnomer, since I really am resting much lower on my face? Does my rifle (toz 17) just have a stock/comb that is too low and meant for only iron sight use? I've seen rings that are even taller and that completely surprises me.

Might be into a design issue - I am suspecting your stock was made (and optimized) for iron sight use?? If you do go to a cheek riser idea, remember that you will need to have a way to get the bolt out of the receiver - most people do not want to remove the action from the stock to do so - just a parameter to consider...

Another thought - your first picture - the 4X scope that you like the height - an identical version was made - 2x to 7X or so?? would be a direct replacement - no longer made, of course, but perhaps an option???

Very possible but it doesn't look like my comb has such an extreme drop to make optics impossible. I would get something that straps on the stock for the rare time I actually need to remove the bolt.

Do you know the model name or price for the 2-7? I would like that.

The scope that you show, I think, is a Bushnell Custom 4x18 rimfire. The one I am thinking about was a Bushnell Custom 3-7x18 rimfire. My mistake on the lowest power. I had sold each (a pair of them - 4x and the 3-7x) for well under $100 within the past year. (I am quite sure there was only one "good" mounting bracket for the two of them, though) I doubt very much that either has been made for 20 years or more?

remove the rear sight and mount your scope lower. another option to consider is a scope without the adjustable objective, this will make the bell smaller in the outside diameter without affecting the size of the objective, or look at a different scope with a smaller objective, either way lets you mount your scope lower and closer to your bore.
