I am however surprised at the poor service that you received, although he is by no means a gunsmith, he usually provides good customer service.

As to why Fort Mcmurray has no specialty hunting or fishing stores, it's because although the wages are high here, we have a lot of people that will not support a small business if they can save a small amount of money at Walmart or Canadian Tire. We have had three hunting stores since I have been here, and it was nice having reloading supplies available locally, as well as a good assortment of guns and ammunition. I gladly paid an extra $3 per pound of powder or $1 for 100 primers, to buy them locally, but too many people won't.

In my opinion an extra 20 dollars per pound of powder was a little on the steep side even after I waited three weeks.

You ask a lot of newbie questions. It is generally not advised for newbies to buy expensive magnums for first rifles.

I wouldn't let him work on a gun, or mount a scope for me, but I do purchase items from him now and again. I have purchased more than one firearm from him at prices that were lower than anywhere else in Canada that I could find at the time.

I paid 1299 for my '85 Grey Wolf, and I tell you, I wouldn't do it again, they're nice guns but they're not "wow you with fit/finish/etc" guns. I'd go Kimber at the 1200-1500$ range, and Custom at the 1800$ plus range.

No it was Bill, i actually told him that i wanted him to do it as i know he is a big time hunter etc. I figured it would be no problem, but it happened exactly as I said, needless to say i was surprised as well.

Granted, after thinking it over a .223 sounds like something better suited to my needs here in Fort Mcmurray.

Well the only time ill be entering his store again is to renew my range membership, provided they are still doing it there.

I have zero interest in Coopers for any price. Im sure they're awesome rifles, but fancy wood and bluing doesnt turn me on unless its that new 2012 Model 70 Alaskan :D , nor does their 2000$ Excalibur, with a freaking bell and carlson stock.... :eek:
 
I scored one through WSO (on sale) and plan to take that pretty piece of lumber and drag it through the woods just like the Sako! There's no Queens in my cabinet, no Tupperware either =].
