I`ve been wondering what you still hunters and trackers use for day packs while out hunting. I still hunt deer and track late season moose in northwestern ontario and even wearing wool or fleece i`m always hindered by the noisy nylon straps on my pack. What have you used and what do you find best.

A topic of concern to me also. My preoccupation for quiet clothing and equiptment extends to everything I wear and carry when I am out hunting.
I have taken care of most of my stuff but the best I have been able to do for my pack is to carry the across the chest single strap packs by
Eureka called the Lost Pup and the Lost Dog, these packs minimize the exposed noisy nylon to a minimum by only having one strap down the middle of my chest,
they are smaller than most packs and don't come around to my side where they can be brushed by branches, I carry one of the two sizes I have
depending on my daily needs. We hunt late November and it is quite noisy with alot of bare branches to navigate around.
The best pack I have seen is one made from wool with leather straps reminicent of the alpine packs they use in the alps for chamois hunting,
I have looked around for wool rucksacs here but I haven't found any for sale, In my opinion they would be the best for a still hunter
to use in the cold crisp weather we often hunt in. Most any synthetic fabric pack I have used is way too noisy for hunting unless you are
sitting still, they all make too much noise and the waterproof ones are the worst with their lined interiors that get very noisy in the cold.
I would be eager to know if anyone has seen wool packs for sale or at the very least a quality fleece pack.

Carry your full pack to your location or close . Drop pack
go skinny drop down to pocket knife rope water

I've been using an old German milsurp canvas rucksack with web straps. Tolerable, but not perfect. Biggest problem is that it's green, not orange, so I might be breaking the rules using it for big game here in Ontario. I've been looking at the traditional canvas packs sold by Duluth Pack ( available in orange ) but man, are they ever pricey for what you get.

I`ve considered going with only the things in my pockets but from a safety perspective I can`t convince myself to do it. I tracked moose this season at -30 without the wind chill and if I end up miles from anywhere as I often do when tracking and run into a problem I take comfort in having some survival gear and food in my pack.

Harkett.
I also track late season moose in 1C and 15A so I understand the conditions. There are a couple of packs I use by a company called Horn Hunter, the Mainbeam and the FullCurl. They are frame based packs, use low nap quiet material, have wrap around waist belts with pockets and a cross chest strap to cinch the pack up tight and quiet. The straps are padded and quiet and there is enough room for overnight necessities and extra clothing. They run about $200+ but worth the money. Good luck.

My group of hunters have transitioned to a tactical vests they are 55-70
Easier on your back the load is carried evenly on your body
. You can add pockets to the molle vest .
