Well, it is that time of year that folks are starting to get revved up for the 2016 Moose season. I see the Moose King contest has already started (thanks Ardent) so I thought I would put up a few pics that, to me, capture the essence of a good moose hunt. These are not trophy pics but ones that you look at and say "I've been there" or "I know how that look feels".

I'll start with a couple that are high on my personal list but post 'em if you got 'em.

Let's see your pics!

This first one says a lot. Hunting partner of many, many years, successful hunt, Grumman canoe, floating sawblade grass that you fall through down to your nuts, an ugly location to put down a bull and the first of a few trips to get the meat back to camp.

And what would an October moose hunt in Northern Ontario be without a little snow to make the disassembly process easier. My buddy in the orange toque was excited about his Bull, less so about the conditions and impending extraction.

Moose while not particularly bright or tough, really have at least one singular talent. The ability to find the worst spot in km's to die. If you have not come back pretty much covered in mud, dead tired, and a #### eating grin on your face; can you really be a Canadian moose hunter.

LOL, yeah but with experience eventually one learns when NOT to pull the trigger. :)

Easy part done...

And now, 10 miles by water and a 300 meter portage and then up a hill to the truck...

Nice pictures, there's only one thing missing -women

Couple of years ago we were up hunting next to a FN camp( we walked in, introduced ourselves,my hunting partner is a surgeon and said we were next door if they needed medical help and were invited to a meal, and an offer for help if we got a moose) when we go moose hunting our wives stay at home, for FN it's a family event, women and kids come along. When the old man comes back, his wife hands him a beer, puts another log on the fire and takes over...When we get a moose,we do all the work, cook our own meals ,clean up and sleep in cold beds....and we think that's 'progress'

Haha, your buddy has the same look I did when I shot my first moose. Same idea, was snow/freezing rain sideways out when I shot it from across what turned out to be a nastier ravine than I thought it was. Then my buddy's quad broke down and we had to pack out quarters over our shoulders through 3 kms of old burn. Couple lessons learnt that year! You know its pretty crappy out when the only way you can thaw out your hand is by sticking them in the moose heart!

I love the pictures of you guys in the canoes! I've always wanted to do a canoe hunt, but every time I bring it up all my hunting buddies look at me like I've just insulted their mothers hahaha. I guess they figure packing out a moose is tough enough let alone paddling all over too.
