I use a 22mag savage 42 with cci hp+v. Works so well and is really small and light
I love the concept of the model 42, I just wish it followed in the model 24's footsteps with regard to aesthetics.
Agreed.... don't even know why they have a dovetail on them.... One negative thing about the baikal is that the sights are rather pedestrian..... I can hit cans with the .22 out to about 50 yards reliably.... but I wouldn't think these are 80 yard sights by any means....
Anyone else here use a Hammond Game Getter? http://www3.telus.net/gamegetter/
I've played with mine in the back yard, but haven't had the opportunity to get any real world use out of it since getting it.
Yeah, I use a Hammond in my .308 when I am out looking for bigger critters. It live in the first opening in the shell holder, ready for the odd grouse that shows up. I use Green loads, which Brian Hammond says are overkill, but I had a bunch of them and they work for me. Not as quiet as the lighter loads.
When I was living in Cold Lake and hanging about ion the woods with Brutus, I used my 10/22 pretty much exclusively. Head shots were the preferred hit, and the ranges were usually really close, under 20 yards was pretty typical.
Cheers

Saturday is Rabbit hunting day, haven't hunted rabbits since I was, like...15?
My Gal wants to get some Rabbit stew on the stove. Apparently 'Jacks' are cool too? We fed the 'Jacks' to the cats back in the day, only the Cottontails got consumed. Pan fried too I might add
Getting some culture I suppose.
There are some incredible rabbit/hare recipes out there.
One of my favourites: http://honest-food.net/2010/02/11/hare-stew-hard-times/
Hank says it is a great way for old hares, jacks, etc. but I really like it with snowshoe hares (which is all I ever get in this neck of the woods).
Also, any recipe that calls for slow cooking/braising/crock pot/etc. works really well in a pressure cooker and takes between 20 and 40 minutes instead of hours. Highly recommended!
Good luck!
