I must admit, I was a fan of rails on all kinds of pistols.
But now, to me, it's kind of had it's time...like a fad you could say.
Unless you like shooting in the dark or pointing a laser, I don't have any use for the 1913 on a pistol.
And if you like wielding a knife, this setup is also great for your rail.

In Canada I just don't see the need for a rail on a 1911, or any pistol for that matter. If I were to ever use a gun for personal defense, I would rather hold a high output flashlight in my supporting hand (hands back to back) and turn it on only when required.
A 1911 is a fine looking pistol without a rail, I feel that rails detract from the looks of the gun, plus a rail can get in the way when handing a pistol.
When I purchase a pistol, if there is a choice of a rail/no rail in the model I'm looking at I will buy the non railed gun.
Pistols such as Glocks and HK's have a smooth non-segmented rail on almost all of their pistols, so there is no real option in this case.
Rails on guns in general are retarded for what we Canadians can use em for.
Buying something tacticool just for the hell of it is one thing, but mounting a light worth half the price of the gun just so you can play mall ninja around the house at night is sad.
A good handheld light used properly is a much better choice and provides a hell of a lot more flexibility. having to point a gun at whatever you want to light up can be a really bad idea!
Spending more, or specifically adding a rail to a 1911 is pretty retarded IMHO.
That said I could really care less.
