Ramblings on Gun Deals

Good deals here too.

I'm not much of a haggler, if I like the original price the most I ever ask for is to split the shipping.

I try to throw the odd trinket in the boxes I send out also.

So true!!!!!

I just lowered a scope from $475 to $425 Shipped...... and be damned if a guy PM's me offering $325 Shipped... WTF?

280_ACKLEY

I'll give you $327!

On a more serious note... I was at the gun show yesterday. I had an idea what I wanted to buy. Found a gun at a decent price and then the lecture started.

"You won't find another deal like this! I could easily ask $50 more!"

I suggested he raise the price and walked out. Came home and hit the EE.

I just don't ship when I sell on the EE... Sell locally so I can meet the buyer in person, and if there are any problems, they will know where to find me...

HOW ABOUT the oh oh oh...... Hold it for me.....

And the old, ok, whatever, ill give you first dibs, and then NOTHING, not even a no thanks, after multiple posts.... Hey if you ask for pics, and then dont reply, no prob....Your not interested, but how about quit bugging me with multiple PMs, asking me to hold it for you....and then when I pm and say hey whut the........Nothing.....

Oh yeah..... YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!! And also, when I give a price, quoting retail stores, and the item is SUBSTANTIALLY CHEAPER, quit trying to grind the last penny outa me.......As the beginning of this thread started to mention....

I DONT need to sell the items, i WANT to tho. But before I sold it for some of the offers I have had, I would put the barrel in the reciever of my truck and make it a banana before selling it for the price you offered!!!!

WOW thats enough VENTING for today....

The beauty of the EE is that you can advertise an item for any price you want, and I can offer to purchase that item for any price I want. If you don't like it, don't take it, if I want it I'll pay more for it, if you want to sell it you'll take less for it. If your price is out to lunch you won't move the item, if my offers are out to lunch I won't aquire anything. I don't understand why people get in a flap when they get low balled, just say "no thanks", or make a counter offer. In my experiences, most items on the EE have a little room to move, or sometimes a lot. A low ball offer is no different than an astronomical asking price, and we all know they're out there too. Not every offer or inquiry has to result in a deal.

I don't think anything on the EE should be taken personally, it's business. The best we can hope for is that the dealings are honest and good for both parties. Prompt payment, quick shipping, good packaging, quality communication, and accurate descriptions are the things that matter.

I have made several purchases, one sale, and one attempt at a sale on the EE. All of my deals have been excellent, no complaints. A few of the sellers have thrown some unexpected goodies in the packages and I really appriciate that. There is alot of extra value in a set of dies or box of TSX bullets, this is where you can tell the difference between gun nutz dealing with gun nutz and gun nutz dealing with corporations. It is for that reason that I will continue to be active in the EE, and if my wife has it her way it will be selling rather than buying!:( She will have to learn that she doesn't always get her way.:p

I have to say that since I found this site " I Am a Gunoholic" All my dealings either selling or buying have been 100% other than one. All deals have been ended with a recieved notice and some I have talked to by phone at the other side of the Country. Now you can't get better than that. Applause all the nutters here. :p Bob

I have sold decent rifles for reasonable, fair prices on this site. I have purchased decent rifles for reasonable, fair prices. No bad transactions yet.

Many, many people are unrealistic in terms of the asking price.

I have had a few nice dealings on the EE and a few not so nice. I traded a rifle for another and found out through another member that the rifle on the way to me had a stock that was cracked. I confronted the seller and they agreed to send me money for a replacement stock. I replaced the stock and still haven't seen the money.

Another wasn't a bad deal but a lesson learned. Sold a rifle, lowered my price a bit, the guy asked for it to be shipped express, figured he was excited to get his new rifle so I agreed and paid the extra $25. Day after the gun arrives to him it is up for sale on the EE for more money. Won't do that again.

I've had nothing but good dealings on the EE,never had a problem buying or selling and I have met a lot of first class people who share my love of guns.I don't quibble over price,if I want the gun I buy it.I've sold a few that I regret, but that's not the buyer's fault! All in all it's been a good experience, and as I've said it gave me a chance to converse with and meet some great people!Merry Xmas to all......Mur

Almost all of my dealing with CGN members have been awesome. The only ones that were not so great (and even then, not so bad), were due to simple mistakes such as forgetting to include a part --- these issues were all resolved at no cost to me, except a bit more time.

My most memorable GREAT experience came about 1/2 year ago when someone had listed a NIB Leupold FX-II 4x33 scope on the EE. I spoke with the seller, but decided not to go in on a deal even though the scope was very fairly priced. I had second thoughts a week later, so I emailed the seller saying "If the scope's still available, let's make a deal for $300 shipped." <around that price, it was the seller's original asking price>

An hour later, I got a reply "I'm sorry, I can't sell it to you for $300, but I'll take $275 for it." It turned out the seller had already done a "btt" and lower price on the scope, which I hadn't seen. He could have easily gotten $300, which I was happy to pay, and would have held to even if I'd eventually seen the new price.

I was very surprised, and very pleased, by the counter offer and really appreciated the seller's gesture.

I have had nothing but good luck with dealing with people of the EE. I have also met some pretty good people due to the sight. I try to do my research, look at all trading ratings, previous posts etc etc. You can tell alot from a person on how they post.

Owww, #### move if you ask me.

I've had pretty good luck here. Two or three of the guys I've dealt with I'd love to meet face to face someday soon.

I had a guy of firearmscanada.com back out of a deal. He had a stellar buy on a Forehand & Wadsworth (in .32 Short Colt I think) pistol I'd wanted. The gun was mint and had been for sale for a while. I contacted him via telephone, we made arrangements, and exchanged info. My BS detector was not tripped, so I felt pretty good about it. He emails me a month or so later saying "My girlfriend wants me to keep the gun for her to shoot." Translation: I'm a douchebag and someone offered me more money, so I'm selling to them. He knows nothing about the gun, and her being an L.E.O. makes it highly unlikely she would know how to safely shoot ths kind of firearm. The demon inside me hopes whomever did wind up with it tries some smokeless .32's in it and comes away short a useful amount of fingers.

~85 transactions
3 fellows tossed in extras (rings, hard case, components - played these or spares forward).
1 back out
1 backed out and backed back in
1 neglected to mention he had stripped the grip screws and then not answer replies (Stoeger comped them so worked out well).
1 local deal (as in within blocks) had to have cash electronically before initiate transfer, and then after verification would meet with rifle rather than meet, exchange cash/rifle, and complete transfer with one call all within 3 minutes so seemed odd and didnt happen (turns out would not have been an issue but the times I haven't followed my nose...).

So over 80 out of 85 transactions were positive - that is a respectable customer satisfaction rating. Of course only purchased / sold when transaction reasonable, sellers dont have to sell, buyers dont have to buy - its voluntary based on a bargained deal.

If its within $200 of new, I'll buy new - know the history, have the warranty, support the local dealer (who has always matched the best price of a reputable deal found on line).

Have asked before what best price is when asking price seemed to have build in haggle room / was optimistic rather than potentially insult with low ball offer - not worth either person's time

Packing is easy enough - when at gun store ask for empty box... put rifle in empty box, add some bubble wrap or other bulk material - tape it closed - just dont see the issue there (though apparently this simple thing is abnormal as received many positive PMs about how well packaged my shipments were).

So far the vast overwhelming experience has been positive. Happy there is an EE - allows me to rotate through different firearms and see what bolt/lever/pump, tube/blind/detachable, flat/pistol grip/thumbhole... configurations are like.

At other times EE is a source of amusement (via PM) as Berettas, Buckmarks, Savages and others are advertised at or above new.

So in summary - prices are too high when I'm buying, too low when I'm selling, and would own more poor performing investments if there was no EE.

I've never had a problem with any of my EE purchases/sales. I do have some thoughts though:

If you have thin skin you're dealin' in the wrong place;
why be offended....either say it's a deal or not and get on with it;
ask a fair price for your stuff......no wonder you get lowballers when you ask more for an item than what it would cost new......most stuff on the EE is overpriced.......no wonder it has 20 bumps and 1,000's of views.

That's one thing I don't get hung up on. If I agree to terms with a buyer, and they turn around and advertise it for more money, why does that matter to me? The new owner and I agreed and they followed through. What's the big deal?

Merry Christmas all!

I agree, We made the deal and all was good. I just said I wouldn't do it again:).

buyers and sellers see the deal differently

I have found that sellers can be very defensive about the price they post. Sure..to them it may seem reasonable (there is no "fair", Fair is where you buy Popcorn), but the buyer is not insulting the seller by offering what the gun is worth to HIM.( or her).

Spend a day at a market in Tangiers. There you are a newbie not to offer less than half of the asking price. You talk, you have a cup of tea. No one's pride is hurt if you say that TO YOU the product is only worth $X. It is part of the enjoyment of the bargin. You want to get the product at the lowest possible price and the seller wants to get the most. You find a price that makes you both happy or you both walk away happy.

Too many times I see guns listed here with a snarly sort of of "take it or leave it" wording. I would leave it right there. If the seller has a chip on their shoulder and their ego is wounded by the bargining process, then they should not enter into an auction on CGN. IT is fun, and challenging. Say no, but say it nicely and without resentment.

Anyway, I have enjoyed my dealings and find that people who are honest will always make good buyers and sellers, regardless of the value of the goods.
