Something could have happened. I had a similar, but a bit more complicated experience, that ended just like yours.
I have nothing but good feelings toward him. We had so much good correspodence between us, that I am convinced something very adverse has happened, in order for him to end it like that. Gun deals could be the last thing on his agenda, now.

excactly. I always browse through the EE if im lookin for somethin and if i cant find it or not at a good price I start checkin out the dealers.

Frontier has become my new favourite shopping depot lol bought 4 guns from them in last 5-6months. fantastic guys and sell for the same if not cheaper then the big guys (WSS etc) AND free shipping. the CGN dealers rock.
 
Somethings to watch for .....

I've had a number of successful gun deals on CGN, and only one BAD one.

Item description stated excellent, as new - all that jazz.

Pictures looked great - come to think of it a little dark though.

seller had tons of experience and a good trader rating - not 100% but decent.

A few weeks later I go to accept the gun, I was floored honestly a real piece of s**it. Bluing wears / scrapes / rust, stock gouges from being dropped, dirty as hell ect ect

Moral of the story, ask lots of questions - any damage, any repairs, any problems, model numbers, version - and anything else you can think of. IMHO if an item being sold is not in good working order or has obvious damage - It's the seller's responsibility to divulge. (Some people don't seem to understand this part)

and if an item is sold and completely misrepresented the obligation should be the sellers to take it back.

so far i have only pick up 1 gun from CGN, i bought it from a guy here in town. I was a little worried picking buying something off the internet and thats kinda why i got it from town. Turned out the guy was awsome to deal with and i would buy from him in a heart beat again, we chatted on the phone a few times trying to arrange a good time for me to come over and look at it (lol did scare his neighbors down the block by accident though).

I almost pick up a revolver off here but, missed out because of my offer and was slow on the ball. I was unsure on the price so i asked a guy i work with what he thought (old timer knows a lot) he said to drop the price by $50, so i offered 50 less (forgot to tell buddy that the price included shipping). The seller still gave me first "dibs" on it but waited 10 min for me to respond, i was at work and took to long so it went to the next guy in line.
can't be mad at the seller for that, it was my fault.

one thing i have noticed though is some of the prices here are way over the top, and the good prices are gone real quick. I just need to learn what is a good price and what is too much.

ex: i was looking a a pair of shotguns being sold together asked the guy if he was firm on price he gave me some story on how the were his dads and grandfathers and would not sell them for less. Thats fine your porogative, but when your price for a pair of shotguns when one was rusted and beat really bad and the other was far from mint plus shipping is double the price of the "good" one in near mint condition including shipping was...... get my point?
I'm just glad i came across the other one before i spent way too much money on a shotgun and "door prop"
 
The items that are priced fair and are in good condition always move quickly. Out of the over 100 deals I have done, I have had only one crappy experience. I knowingly gave up some value in a trade as this is my hobby and I figured it was just a price to pay. I shipped off my part of the trade and expected the other member to do the same. After a week passes he is not returning PM`S and has recieved my rifle. Two more weeks pass and he has not shipped the gun.I was pissed . The gun finally arrives however with the bad taste in my mouth I sold it cheap. This was a member with a good trader rateing. Where else can you buy something privatley on line , pay in advance site un-seen and 99% of the time be very happy with the deal?
I have done more than one deal with many members on the EE and met some great people.

I bought a gun from a fellow recently, that he thought was in very good condition. It is mighty interesting what some fellows think is " Very Good Condition" FS
 
Well, this is an INTERESTING thread..........

I am not sure what I could say that has not already been said, although of course I read LOTS here that made me raise my eyebrows a bit........ :p

I've done a few deals here myself over the years, most good, some so-so, only a few truly bad. And I have met, in person, dozens of guys who I would never have met otherwise, and in some cases who have made my life richer. I also have folks that I consider to be good friends, even though I have never met them. :)

If you told me twenty years ago that I would be "pen pals" with a bunch of folks I never met, I would have told you that you were smoking cheap dope.

But here I am.............:rolleyes:

Doug, you sure have a way with words. Makes me want to be "pen-pals"!:p

I've done alot of deals with a heck of a lot of great people, and to echo Doug, have met some truly great people in person and on-line.
I just wish that I could travel the country more. The EE is a great place, the people fantastic. If you need or want something, people are here to help out.
Not all deals are 100%. You forget the good ones and remember the bad. Life's too short to hang on to that. This hobby of ours is supposed to be fun.

I have bought 3 rifles so far and have have a good experience each time
some prices posted are ridiculous and don't merit a bid.
I think some degree of bargaining is expected but low balling is just plain insulting.
my only complaint is getting no response to a fair offer. If you don't want to knock off a few bucks, then say so

ive had this happen a few times. one guy - even though we had excellent communication - just wouldnt leave feedback even though i sent him two PMs asking him to please return the feedback. it pisses me off that someone cant take the 30 seconds to leave you feedback in return :rolleyes:

i guess it must be doubly aggravating for you since it would have been your first feedback

I see that your buyer was on-line today. I wonder if he read this thread?

I also see that he has seven TR ratings, and has left two (one seller, one buyer). So he does know how to leave a TR if he decides to do so. :dancingbanana:

He is a consultant, according to his profile, and lives somewhere around Fort Saskatchewan. Maybe he is a consultant in aerodynamics of high-speed jets, given his listed birth place in Cold lake Alberta, and his choice of handle here. His first name is Garry and he openly publishes his e-mail address. He is also in contravention of the EE rules, since he has more than two current ads in one EE forum. Maybe somebody should complain about him............ ;)

If my memory serves me correctly, which is NOT always the case, I tried very hard to find a deal with him on something or other, most likely a rifle, but could not find anything to please him. Maybe it is just as well I did not go ahead with a deal............. :rolleyes:

Powderman wants a TR, buyer ignores him, kind of shabby. But hey, this is the Internet and not everybody plays nice. Hmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder if his listed e-addy has a really good spam filter, or maybe he needs to hear from some stock promoters, ###### sales people, ##### lengthening potion hacks, and other assorted spammers. Oh my, wouldn't that be a terrible thing to happen!!!!! :p :stirthepot2:

Had an effed up one a year or so back related to here. Listed a nice older and fairly rare 44 mag lever rifle. I let it run for a few days on a more local site before putting it here as I do somethimes. I'm carefull to use the E word but i said I can not see a mark on it. A fellow who's been around here a fair bit offered me 50 bucks less than asking. I went for it and thought it was kind of ironic as I bought the rifle from a friend of his.

Deal goes through then I get a pm on the other site (he has 0 posts there) saying the stock is cracked at the tang and "what am I going to do about it" WTF I'm thinking, am I loosing it? Damage during ship? Anyways I ask what he wants to do. He says send him 50 bucks he'll have the stock fixed and he'll be happy. He says he only noticed it when he took the stock off. I do so and ask for some pictures to see the damage mainly to see how the hell I could miss such a thing. I wait, wait, then get a pm that he tryed to take pics of the crack but it "was too dark in there" and pics won't show the damage but thanks for the 50 bucks.

I told him life's too short to worry about $50, but if he ever sees a rifle I've posted for sale, move along cause I won't sell it to him. To put it politely.

i had a very similar experiance a year and a half ago. sold a Browning Hi-Power with a pile of goodies at a very fair price to fund a gun i had wanted for ages that suddenly became available. apparently it arrived covered in rust and the buyer claimed the rifling in the barrel was so worn that he could drop a .355" bullet through it with out resisitence, said a $100 refund for a new barrel would clear it up. this i knew to be an absolute crock of s**t, but like you i figured $100 is not worth worrying over, and i was too happy with the new gun to mind really. as well i do a lot of buying and selling and figured a negative trader rating wasn't worht the hassle, bogus or not.

Like others I too have had this experience. I wonder if the lack of feedback is the other party having trouble seperating business from CGN BS?

I guess if some one told you 10 years ago some guy that you have never met is just going to ship you a rifle just because he had heard it was a caliber you always wanted to work with but never had the chance............... FS
 
Only had one that went sour. It was fully rehashed on here once, as the person in question had pulled a stunt with Doug as well. Dealt with it accordingly, took some telephone threats for my trouble, and moved on.
