Ramblings on Gun Deals

I'm 50+ trader rating but I've done quite a few more deals than that. Some folks just don't leave TR I guess.
I checked on one fella and he had 20+ left for him and had only left 1 in return.
I could honestly not give a r@ts @ss tho...If you can't tell how I do business with what it shows right now,another 20 won't help ;)

I wonder if his listed e-addy has a really good spam filter, or maybe he needs to hear from some stock promoters, ###### sales people, ##### lengthening potion hacks, and other assorted spammers. Oh my, wouldn't that be a terrible thing to happen!!!!! :p :stirthepot2:

Doug

Hmm, is that how I got all those ads Doug? :p:D

I just had a deal with a guy that didnt want to pay me $120 shipped for a shotgun and I told him he could have it for $110 and he cried a bunch but he wanted it enough he paid me. He looked at alot of pictures and knew what it looked like and after he paid me I gave him a positive trader rating. When he got the shotgun he sent me a pm saying it was a piece of ####e and I was crooked. I never got a trader rating, but probably a good thing because it would have been negative. He haggled for two days and knew exactly what it was and still #####ed about it.

I haven't had any bad experiences. One notable on was a o/u I purchased, when I got it it had some pitting in the chambers. Seller was honestly surprised but agreed to cover the cost of having them polished by a gunsmith.

My worst experience was actually from a dealer (not a site sponsor). Long story, but I made it clear exactly which model I wanted, he sent a different one hoping I would just live with it. He took it back but I got stuck with shipping it back on my dime. I'll never do business with him again, not because of the apparent "mistake" but the fact that it was clearly intentional on his part.

I don't play the horse trading game, if someone has something I want-I will ask them ''what is your best price?''and tell them I will not make an offer ,but will either take it or leave it,and once the deals made, thats it.I pay immediately, and confirm goods recieved or payment made.To me-thats respectful and the way I would like to be treated

nope, no bad deals for me.

had some pretty wicked lowball offers, but thats life.

pet peeve has to be when a guy goes on and on how much he wants a gun but only has $###, so you cut him a deal and no sooner does his have it, but its on the EE for double.

I only had one bad deal...I bought a rifle with a cracked stock, seller said he did not notice it..maybe he has bad eyes "who knows"... it was the first thing I noticed when I looked at the gun. In the sellers defense he did offer to take it back, but I kept it as we settled on a $50 reduction in price. In hindsight I should have sent it back to the seller as there were other issues, like the piece of credit card used to tighten the forarm and the loose mag tube. In the end I had the stock repaired for $75 and I fixed the rest myself. I guess every bodies version of excellent is different.....lesson learned I now know who not to deal with....

So exactly how many guys here have Dougs old long johns and wool socks or does he just save them for me?

Joe there are hundreds of old socks out there, and most of a complete wardrobe, as well as enough bedding to set up a guest room, a bunch of hats, and who knows what else! A couple of times I even sent stuff wrapped in "SPECIAL" items of apparel.

the satisfaction is in watching it get bumped and reduced 20 times before it sells ;)

I've bought and sold a ton of stuff online in the last ten or so years, and I've learned that asking price is usually 30%+ of what's reasonable, and that you'll always get low ball offers. If it's 'offensively' low, just say no. No need to get offended by someone trying to get a deal. My truck cost me $100, asking price was $500, and I could show you a dozen listings for equivalent trucks for $1000. Everyone thinks their stuff is worth more because_____.
I've only made two deals on the EE and in both cases the price was reduced a smidge for me (thanks guys!). Like MBP keeps sayin, if you don't want to haggle, say this: $___ FIRM. Then when people make an offer, point out that the price is firm.

When I make a low offer on an item I explain why ie "this is what I bought the last one for" it is then up to the seller if they want to continue dealing with me or not...

I have only had good experiences on the EE actually one guy was to pay shipping but hadn't when his MO arrived I sent the item at my expense with a request for the $25 shipping/insurance but never heard from him about this again.

I Needed help from another member here to post on note on a guys's house in Spruce Grove outside Edmonton warning that I would be contacting the RCMP to put in a charge for Fraud about money sent for a rifle that never turned up (this was in OT for a while). After the note was posted his EX-Wife logged in to this cgn account and told she was going to ship the rifle and did, took a while longer to get the transfer sorted out . A few other guys had the same problem and the note seemed to fix it.

Sometimes seller or their ex-wives just needs a little motivation.

We had a young- 30 something - gal around here a few years ago who would travel all over the region looking for a cheap or free horse supposedly for her 6 year old daughter who she always had with her.

She collected several dozen this way before the word got out she was actually shipping all the horses she collected for dog food. The $600- $700 she got per head was a tidy profit made on animals she usually got for free by appealing to other folks good nature.

thats low...real low

reminds of a few years back a rough lookin guy approached me outside my commercial bank and gave me a story about him and his son just coming here from ontario and him not getting the job he was promised. now they are out on the street and the mens shelter wont accept his kid etc, etc.

i felt bad for the guy and threw him a twenty i had in my hand. not like me to do that but i was in a good mood i guess.

year goes by and at the same bank the SAME guy approaches me and gives me the SAME story...word for word...i lost it...nearly broke my foot on his ass after i pushed him over and he was trying to run away..all the while im yelling at him at the top of my lungs and drawing a crowd. dont think he ever worked that parking lot again.

lesson learned...trust no one

Reminds me of a young kid thats showed up at the Savage collectors forum once, he gave a good sob story about how he really loved the 1899's and hoped to own one of them one day. One of the guys gave him a donor action and barrel, a couple other guys threw in some internals, some wood, a sight set etc....

Needless to say that when the gun was finished he sold it a week after on the same damn forum!

you should never settle for covering shipping back if it was was the dealer/seller's fault. there is no way i am paying even a penny for someone else's mistake or misrepresented item. Canada post shipping costs are ridiculous.

I've never met a firearms owner I didn't like. I'll admit I'm a bit hare-brained with the feedback system but getting better! I've met some really great people just buying and selling the odd thing. Frankly, it's changed my thinking about people in general and took away a bit of jadedness.

Here's to you! You know who you are.
