Range Day - .30-378Wby

I find it too hard to hunt around here with ear plugs and muffs on, can't hear a damned thing in the woods...:)

I find a good set like Peltor Comtac to be the best option when hunting my braked 30-378.

You can turn up the volume and even wear earplugs underneath and still hear better then without a muff (well I can anyways) . The shot cuts out the volume of course.

Usually when you are using such a rifle you are not sneak and peak hunting but scanning from a hide or at least looking some distance away and a snap shot is not likely. I actually find it a very relaxing way to hunt.

The most important thing is to protect your ears -- I have learned the hard way that it is better to let an animal get away then to shoot unprotected anymore - not worth it to walk around at 45 saying "what did you say...?" al the time!

What a jerk! ......Thats awsome!

not a troll, just kinda shocked that a $2000 rifle would shoot 3moa groups. Im not sure how Weatherby could of let that one out of their factory shooting like that. Kinda pointless to have a long range rifle that is not capable of precision. I hope you get it sorted out! and keep us updated on how it goes :)

That would be why I suggested a scope issue or other mechanical problem.
Weatherby rifles traditionally shoot very well (they should)... the Accumark too.

Though Todbartell might voice his opinions differently than you (or I) might prefer he is hardly a troll.
"Coming out of the closet" with a 30-378 is grounds for the odd pot shot and/or some good natured ribbing.:p:p

After all this is Gunnutz and not 24hrcramp. :D

I was just kidding. All in good fun and no offence intended or taken :)

I took the stock off and checked it over. Looks ok. I torqued the action screws to 40lb/in and will take her out again and see if that makes a difference. It seems more bedding related than possible scope issues I think.

Make sure you have hearing protection when hunting as well, witnessed my friend lose pretty much all hearing in his left ear from two rounds into a moose, I had mine plugged when he fired and still found the noise uncomfortable, he should have removed the brake for hunting as well. It will shoots 4 to 6" at 500 yards with 180 Partitions out of the box seems pretty decent to me.

I was going by the recommenations on my Wheeler, and for non-pillar bedded stocks, they say 40in/lb. Pillar bedded is 65in/lb.
I will try this and see what happens.

Got some reloads put together now.

200gr Nosler AB
102 - 105grs Retumbo (3 rounds of each in one grain increments)

Will see how she performs ;)

Glad to see you subscribe to "big gun/big bullet" theory. I HATE when dummis try and whip 150grain bullets out of 300RUM and 30-378...no point to having a big gun if y'ain't gonna fling a BIG bullet IMO.

Hope she perks up and gets down to 1MOA for ya! I had to take my .257 weatherby accumark in and have it pillar bedded, and the action bedded, made a world of difference.

You should try 208grain A-maxes :D

Some people have bad technique, or need more practice, or both. Many people are not proficient enough to be able to blame the equipment. Only bad craftsmen blame their tools.

Mine wasn't Best it was doing was 1.5" at 100 - with 100grain bullets of any flavor. But it is now! - If I do my part it'll overlap holes now....hates heat though - 2 to 3 minutes between shots or it isn't worth a spit.

My .257WBY and 300WBY Mark Vs weren't much better than that, hence my reason for never owning another Mark V.Luckily I bought my Mark Vs at a store closeout for a very low price and lost very little on them when I sold them.If I had paid full price,I would have been even more disappointed.
