Finally got a chance to try out two new rifles built for me this winter by Dennis Sorensen. To say that I am very pleased would be an understatement. Dennis does very good work and in a timely manner. I've had several jobs done by him and have never been disappointed.

First off is a 700 in 270Win, trued action, bead blasted and reblued, 23" stainless Gaillard bbl, std sporter contour bedded in an Edge. I wasn't planning on having it fluted, but it was a bit front heavy, so I sent it to Corlanes for the job. It helped.

Apparently it likes Nosler BTs. Not bad for the first groups ever! :)

Second up is another 700 in 22/250. Also trued, bead blasted and reblued. Dennis hooked up a Remington stainless, sporter bbl, rechambered from .223 and bedded in a Classic stock. I wanted the faster twist on the .223 for shooting heavier bullets for deer hunting.

This was also the first group fired from this rifle while sighting in the scope at 50yds. Not too shabby, even at 50yds.

I later fired a couple 1" groups at 100yds using Speer 70gr SPs. In all, very good day at the range.

Looks like a productive day. Any reason for the 215 primers, or just what was on hand?

2-tone is the shizzle...:dancingbanana:

The WC852 is a surplus powder that Higginsons used to carry. I've had good luck with it in the past. It's H450 equivelent so a slower powder. I wanted to use a magnum primer and I have a 2K of those 215s on hand.

Very nice rifles and some nice shooting to. I really like that .270. Nice pair of rifle you got there S.C.:) Dennis seems to excellent work, I may have to try him out in the future.

great looking rifles, and well thought out,..only way to get them how you really want them,,.....have them put together.

The 270 reminds us how you can build something better than factory for less $$...witness the new Alaskan Ti,......your 270 is basically it without the Ti receiver and fluted bolt, but with a better stock and much better barrel.......probably close in weight too....

Very nice, and good shooting too...:)

Your increasing Twinkie intake is getting the better of you.

.

Actually its twinkie withdrawl, they got last in the mail between here and California (stupid ebay) :(
But it doesnt change the fact SuperFudd has a fluted barrel ;)

Nice rifles, I had forgotten that you were allowed to use a 22-250 for deer hunting in NB. Over here in NS we have to use at least a .243, I guess our government doesn't trust hunters to do their part quite as much as the NB government does. Just out of curiosity, what bullets do you prefer in your 22-250 for deer?

Oh man, I thought this post was gonna be about the 7x already!

Nice rifles. Helps that they seem to shoot OK.:p:D Looks like load development may be a little boring, actually. Good shooting, SC.

That 22-250 needs too see some time in a gopher field or two...
