Range Report .358-375 Ruger and 7.62X57 HC

Greg, do you have any Re22 around? I have a feeling that will be the real deal in your Big 35, especially using 250s.

Ted

I have lots of RL-22, Ted... I will give it a try next trip out.

I also have a good supply of 35 cal 250 grain Partitions... but shoot those primarily in my .350 Rem Mag rifles.

Fantastic pair of rifles Greg, you could effectively hunt the world with that combo and be unique anywhere you go.

225 grain Accubonds should work great. Have you taken anything with those before? I still haven’t tried them as I settled on the 225 grain Partition in the 350 Rem Mag and haven’t had a reason to look for something else. Still playing with some 225 grain Woodleighs with my Whelen, but the Accubonds are on the list to try.

I was using the 225 Partition for a few years in my .358 Win rifles, but did not find any effective difference between them and standard Hornady 200/Sierra 225 grain SP's when it came to accuracy or effect on game at .358 Win velocities. I then shot the 225 Paritions in my .350 Rem Mag rifles until my supply ran out, and then switched to the 250 Partition in the .350's. This 225 Accubond is fairly new for me... I did find a box at a gunshow awhile back and tried them in the .350 RM, but ran out of bullets in testing and never used them on game. I now have a few hundred on hand and early results have been very positive. On my next trip out, I am going to stretch them out to 200 and 300 yards and see how the accuracy holds up out of this rifle, the twist rate is slower than I would have liked and these are long bullets. If all the boxes get ticked, I hope to use this rifle for a spot and stalk spring bear hunt, assuming the government doesn't do anything silly with regard to the Covid scare.

No... I found a very nice load with the 180 NBT and RL-17 and stuck with it. Have the second stainless M77 Mark II 7.62x57 with me in camp now. I plan to carry it for the moose guiding season this year and pop a calf for the freezer. Bowhunting deer in MB at the moment.
