Got out to the range this weekend and thought I would share my results

Pistol: Kimber 1911 StainlessII .45acp
Bullet: 230gr RN Berrys
Powder: 5.9 gr Universal Clays
Primer: Federal 150
COAL:1.260"
Distance: 15 yards
Group: 4 shots @ 1.25"

I've only been shooting pistol for about 6 months and reloading for 2 months.
So I am pretty happy with these results.
 
That's a good group size, and you were shooting from a bench?. Try an 8-shot group next time. 8 shots from a bench will give a good indication of the gun/ammo accuracy.

Shoot standing off-hand to see how you are progressing as far as your skill is concerned.

Yes it was from the bench. I loaded up a hundred rounds yesterday. We will see how they perform this weekend. My skills are getting better but still LOTS of room for improvement. I will update this thread next week with the results.
 
I have two 1911's and both of them dent the case upon ejection using factory strength ammo. I just got set up to reload .45ACP and have settled on 230 Grn. RN with 4.7 grains of Unique this mild load works well in both guns and no more dented cases. The 1911 on the left was made in 1917 and has seen a lot of rounds...had to re-barrel it because the old barrel was shot out.

Hey Nuterz,

Was able to get out to the range this weekend and had some half decent results.
I was working up a load in my .40sw Walther P99. Here is my best grouping at 15 yards

180 gr JFP
5.6gr Universal clays
Fed 100 Small Pistol primer
COAL 1.120"
Group size 1.925" (not the tightest group but I just started shooting this gun, and am still getting used to its less than stellar trigger)

If anyone cares,

I hit a balloon @ 50 yards in one shot with my .45 acp reloads yesterday at the Range.
Needless to say my shooting buddy was rather surprised. I was quite impressed myself.

For those of you who are thinking of saying "without pics it didnt happen" or "this thread is useless without pics" Please keep it to yourself as i'm not interested in hearing from you.
 
Those are some nice groups I also have a kimber 1911 and a walther p99 in 40. I agree that the p99 trigger could use some improvements. But it's hard to compare any trigger to a 1911. How many rounds do you have through your kimber I suggest ordering a couple spring kits to keep on hand they need to be re springed anywhere between 1000-1500 rounds I have had to respring mine twice now
 
I have just over 1000 rounds through the Kimber . Haven't had any issues thus far. Where did you order your spring kits from? 1500 rds sounds pretty early to have to change them out. I was thinking more like 5000 rds but I havent really looked into it.

which springs? for the mags?
 
Recoil in the manual states 800 rounds I made it to about 1400 before I started having problems. I also swapped out firing pin spring and main spring around 3500 rounds I got the springs at my local dealer.
 
wow, that's lame... my norc has seen 3000 plus on the same spring, no issues other then my bad reloads. feeds factory all the time.
 
Ya to be perfectly honest I'm not overly impressed with kimber I expected more out of the price tag but it is very accurate and fit and finish are nice but changing springs that often I didn't really expect not that it's really that big of a deal. And as long as you keep a good spring it cycles everything from light loads to heavy from 185 to 230 gr

So were you getting failures between 1000-1500 rds? Cuz im right around there now and have had no issues. I ordered a couple spring kits just incase like you suggested. I really cant see it starting to fail anytime soon though...The gunsmith I bought the spring kits from kinda laughed when I told him how often kimber suggests changing them out. He says he's seen 1911's 50 years old with the original spring and they run just fine. I know wolff makes high quality springs and im definately not going to change them out every 800 rds. I think thats just a ploy by kimber trying to sell more springs lol.

Manual states 1500-1800 rounds for a full size kimber (.45 acp), 800 for the compact and pro carry.
 
Ya I was having problems it wouldn't fully return to battery I had to always push slide forward with my thumb so yes I did have to change them and the colt I had went 6000 rounds without changing a spring and the new owner hasn't changed it either
