Range Report - Daniel Defense V5 & Norinco M4

Iteresting results ... I'd say the Norc was more consistent overall. What the Norc seemed to shoot well the DD did not and vice versa. Did more barrels have the same rate of twist?

There also seemed to be quite a bit of vertical compared to the bolt. How much do you anticipate a new trigger on the DD would shave off the group sizes?

Twist rates.

The bolt rifle is a 1:8 McLennan with a 223 Wylde chamber.

The ARs are factory stock barrels. I think Norc is 1:9 and DD is 1:7, but perhaps others can confirm or correct. I doubt twist has anything to do with the results.

If 1:7 is too fast, it would affect the 55 gr bullets. they shot well in the DD. If 1:9 is too slow, the 68s would not work well in the Norc. They grouped very well.

Test is too small to make much of a comparison, other than to say that both shot well and there is not much difference.

I have totaled up all the group sizes and calculated the average size group for each rifle:

Bolt 1.287"

Norc M4 1.928"

Dan Def 2.07"

My guess is that if the Dan Def had a Rock River trigger, the results would have been about the same as the Norc.

This test did not attempt to find the accuracy potential for each rifle. For that I would have done some load development with a 75 or 77gr HP Match bullet. Maybe next time, but first step is to install a new trigger.

great test ganderite thanks for posting it,

goes to show, a straight barrel from ANY manufacturer shoots straight

So basically, both of the ARs in the test shot.....like ARs. Nice clean objective test without brand bias or BS. Good. Maybe we can all start getting along.

So basically all AR owners should just get the one they want, or if that can't happen, want the one they have. Don't worry about the name on the side of the lower and get out and shoot the darn things.

Oh, and feed them properly sized ammo to make sure the chamber and extract :D (I've learned that lesson myself - the hard way )

I have to say i friggen love my RRA stage 2 trigger in my norc. 1 week in to owning the norc i had to replace the trigger due to using the wrong screw in the magpul grip ( since when do guys read instructions :p). Best upgrade hands down.
