Gentlemen,
So I got my Mosquito about a week ago and have shot it twice thus far. Both times I shot approx 500 rounds.
I was slightly apprehensive about buying this gun because of all the negatives I have read about it, more specifically, how ####ing picky it is with ammunition, but I also own a couple of Sig's (226 & 229) and figured with pretty much the same bits and pieces in roughly the same areas, it would be worth while to pick up as a nice warm-up gun. Not to mention .22 LR is cheap as borscht.
The fit and finish is quite nice, as with all Sig's. Disassembly is fairly straight forward and simple. Unless you have an I.Q. of 4, it shouldn't be a problem.
I'll do this in point form to shorten the length of this post
POSITIVE
- Very accurate
- Extremly light recoil. I've shot other .22's and this is by far the gun with the least "felt recoil" (from memory of course).
- Manual Safety and Decocker.
- Comes with 2 guide rod springs. One is for sub-sonic ammo (painted white and installed from the factory) and the other is for high velocity. It also comes with 2 or 3 different front sights of varying height for adjustment.
NEGATIVE
- Everything you have read about this gun be picky with ammo is WITHOUT EXAGGERATION. I've never shot a gun that jams as badly or as frequently as this one.
-Mag's are very poorly made. The spring is weak and the lips are too far apart. (both of them are like this).
-The 3 dot sights are neon yellow, and even with young eyes, I still had trouble finding them.
The types of ammo that this gun liked are as follows
#1 - CCI Mini Mags
#2 - CCI Stinger
#3 - CCI Velociter
#5 - Remington Thunder Bolt
It does not like anything from Winchester, Federal, not even CCI Blazer. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY (as I did).
One more thing I will mention is that as stated above, the Mosquito comes with 2 different guide rod springs. Do not even try to shoot anything with the factory installed, white spring. It is a waste. I couldn't run anything through the gun with this spring installed, not even the recommended ammo above.
All in all, here's where I stand. If you own Sig's and want a warm up gun, get it. If your looking to get into handguns and want a .22 as your first, DO NOT buy this gun. It is far to picky with ammo and I can eventually see the magazines breaking down to the point where they are no longer useful in a very short period of time.
Knowing what I know now, I would still have bought this gun. It's just to bad that it only likes ammo that is twice as much as the cheap stuff. Not much point in buying a .22 if your spending $6-7 / box just to get the gun to function properly.
