Gentlemen,

So I got my Mosquito about a week ago and have shot it twice thus far. Both times I shot approx 500 rounds.

I was slightly apprehensive about buying this gun because of all the negatives I have read about it, more specifically, how ####ing picky it is with ammunition, but I also own a couple of Sig's (226 & 229) and figured with pretty much the same bits and pieces in roughly the same areas, it would be worth while to pick up as a nice warm-up gun. Not to mention .22 LR is cheap as borscht.

The fit and finish is quite nice, as with all Sig's. Disassembly is fairly straight forward and simple. Unless you have an I.Q. of 4, it shouldn't be a problem.

I'll do this in point form to shorten the length of this post

POSITIVE
- Very accurate
- Extremly light recoil. I've shot other .22's and this is by far the gun with the least "felt recoil" (from memory of course).
- Manual Safety and Decocker.
- Comes with 2 guide rod springs. One is for sub-sonic ammo (painted white and installed from the factory) and the other is for high velocity. It also comes with 2 or 3 different front sights of varying height for adjustment.

NEGATIVE
- Everything you have read about this gun be picky with ammo is WITHOUT EXAGGERATION. I've never shot a gun that jams as badly or as frequently as this one.
-Mag's are very poorly made. The spring is weak and the lips are too far apart. (both of them are like this).
-The 3 dot sights are neon yellow, and even with young eyes, I still had trouble finding them.

The types of ammo that this gun liked are as follows

#1 - CCI Mini Mags
#2 - CCI Stinger
#3 - CCI Velociter
#5 - Remington Thunder Bolt

It does not like anything from Winchester, Federal, not even CCI Blazer. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY (as I did).

One more thing I will mention is that as stated above, the Mosquito comes with 2 different guide rod springs. Do not even try to shoot anything with the factory installed, white spring. It is a waste. I couldn't run anything through the gun with this spring installed, not even the recommended ammo above.

All in all, here's where I stand. If you own Sig's and want a warm up gun, get it. If your looking to get into handguns and want a .22 as your first, DO NOT buy this gun. It is far to picky with ammo and I can eventually see the magazines breaking down to the point where they are no longer useful in a very short period of time.

Knowing what I know now, I would still have bought this gun. It's just to bad that it only likes ammo that is twice as much as the cheap stuff. Not much point in buying a .22 if your spending $6-7 / box just to get the gun to function properly. :bangHead:

Thanks for the info, target. Very helpful.

I think I'm starting to give some serious thought to cancelling the order for the Mosquito (if I can) and going straight to the M&P 9mm or possibly Glock 17.

The Glock 17 would be a great pick. If you can't get out of your contract for the Mosquito, I wouldn't worry to much. Its still the best .22 (in my opinion) when, and only when the ammo works with the gun properly. Out of the 1000 rounds I shot, only about 300 were CCI Mini mags, Stinger or Velociter. These worked very well in the Mosquito. The cheapest of the bunch is the Mini-mags and they are only about $2-3 box. The Stinger and Velociter are $6-7, at least in Calgary and area anyways.

I still like mine and again, don't regret buying it. I just wish the little bastard wasn't so picky.

I have one also including P226 9mm . P226 40 s&w . P220 45
When the chips are down A Sig isn't . After trying several differant brands in my Mosquito & Walther P22 I have found CCI standard velocity the best never had a FTF & reasonaly priced $22.00 per 500

Mosquito info

Have any of you guys tryed shooting Remington yellow jackets thru the Mosquito, or is most remington round good thru that gun. I am thinking of buying a sig Mosquito, and how is the red dot sight that comes with the gun.

Yeah, I think now I'm going to keep it...not going to put the gun shop through the hassle of cancelling just because I didn't do enough research before buying it. And even though it might be a bit pricier to shoot than regular .22s, it's still cheaper than 9mm, unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible).

Again, thanks for the info.

I was going to buy a Sig Mosquito, until I heard nothing but bad things about it.... what .22 would you suggest?

There are a lot of threads asking for .22 sugestions. After that then post your question as a new message. By asking in a thread with a specific subject (other than your question) you will get less people responding to it. Others than migh respond to your question may not have read this thread.

I took my new Mosquito to the range today for the first time. I too have researched this pistol quite a bit and despite all the bad reports decided to go ahead and get a new one.

Compaired to all the other SIGs I own this one deffinitly seems to be built alot cheaper...however also alot better than some other .22 cal. pistlos Ive handled.

Today I was mainly interested in reliability and not accuracy. I shot 100 of each CCI stinger, CCI minimag, Blaser and sum bulk winchester ammo that Ive had for a long time. I also left the recoil spring in that was installed in the factory (white) The gun fired the cci & blaser ammo without a hitch, just awsum ! The bulk Winchester was not as reliable as the others but overall not bad...had acouple rounds that needed to be fired twice, acouple that wouldnt fire at all, and a few that wouldnt feed properly.

I was shooting plates with it and it was abreeze to nock them down, so accuracy seemed good.

Overall, after all the negatives Ive heard about this pistol so far I very impressed with it.

Fingers Crossed....

CCI Blazer has been very consistent for me in my S&W 41, too. Seems to work very well but I can only find it locally in 50 round boxes not 500 round packs so it ends up costing a bit more.

Have either of you guys tried the Mosquito with the other spring that is included? Is it designed for a higher or lower velocity ammo?

Always a good idea but don't you find your fingers hurt after a few hours? ;)
