Hi all,
After ton's of research and countless hours combing through this forum, I purchased a Weatherby Vanguard 2 Fleur de Lis in .270 win a few weeks ago. Got a great price and used the savings to mount a Redfield Revolution 3x9 x40 with their Accurange reticle (not my favorite, but thats what I chose in the heat of the moment).
I had the opportunity to feed it various brands and weights so far. In fact, I'm a little sore because today I put 2 of boxes of rounds through it. To be exact, I have sent a box of Winchester Power Point 150g (the cheap stuff, to sight in the scope and break it in slightly), Federal Fusion 150g and Hornady American Whitetail 130g.
Managed to not do too bad i think. Keep in mind, this is my first rifle and have little to no experience shooting. Never been hunting yet, hence why all the practice at the range.
Bellow is Federal Fusion 150g at 100y
Bellow is Hornady Whitetail 130g at 100y (didn't change my zero on the scope, aimed center of the targets) I'm not sure if my rifle didn't like these as much or I was just getting tired and sore. I pulled a couple rounds.
This is the 200y shots I did. Shot these few rounds at the end of each session
These are the shots i took just after zeroing the scope. Winchester Powerpoint 150g. The cheapest stuff on the shelf.
Just thought I'd share my experience.
Side note: wish I had a slightly longer reach on the scope to really be able to see the 200y shots, but most deer around here are shot at about 50-75y. Have plenty of point blank range with any of these loads.
