Hi,

I found a nice Winchester Ranger 120 3inch at my local hunting store. The metal look nice although it might need some bluing. The stock and pump really need some refinishing.

I find the shotgun good looking and for 150 $ it's not so bad. I was thinking at trying my hand at refinishing the stock. It's got no checkering so I figured it would not be so hard. I might try to lower the price of the shotgun to get a refinishing kit with it for the same price.

My question is: is it hard to refinish a stock. I've never done such a thing but I figured that if I take my time and do it in my spare time I could be able to do something good.

So should I try it or not ?
Thanks,
Seb

Of course, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Us Circa 1850 paint remover and least amount of sanding.
Arm yourself with a paint brush, tooth brush and maybe a
potato or other sort of soft faced brush.
It will make a decent mess.
Have an open can to scrape the poop that will gel up once
the Circa has done it's business.
You may have to go a few passes and the wood should come
out looking dry like balsa wood. Then you know you have it
all stripped. Lightly sand and don't knock off the wood corners.
Best to keep it looking as original as possible.
Others will chime on the type of finish you should apply.
I won't go into it as to each their own.
The more time you put into it, the better it will look.
Cheers and make it fun.
Photos fore and aft would be appreciated.
