RANT......Hey Westerners what the hell is a ky-ute?????

A 4 point mule buck in BC is 4 points on at least one side not including the brow tine.

We always describe the buck as a 2 pointer/3 pointer/4 pointer if they are typical between antlers. If they have a different point count on each antler, then we say 4x2 or 3x4 etc. And we never count the brow tine. That's just a gimme.

So you guys just pick the best side?...... :)

Naw the government does, and brow tine doesn't count of course. ;) They set the standard and regional norms trickle down from there I believe. A lot of minimum points regs in BC, and there's no "point" in counting both sides if the count's only being used as a gauge of maturity for harvest. :) And once the government was only concerned with the best side, the rest pretty well explains itself!

So, in summary....... the government has made some decisions and put arbitrary limits in place in each province ..... also no effort has been put forth so that the provinces work together....... and the Feds do nothing to help facilitate..... and us hunters are "infighting" because of said different regs......

As someone that enjoys hunting across the country, this sounds about right.......

correct...NOT a 14 point!!! :p

But not a 5x5 as you stated earlier........ :).......

Just tugging your chain....... it really doesn't matter, and the regs are so odd and hard to understand in each province (and arbitrary to boot), that it's really hard to understand for the average guy when out of province......

I think your sig line applies......

I always thought that going with the cumulative total seemed like you are trying to get a bigger number to make it sound more grand.
Sorta like using centimeters to describe your package. Upon closer scrutiny, it don't change what you 'brung to the dance'
And it's nice that we are back to friendly joshing back 'n forth. Was getting ugly there for a few...behave guys!

Reading this thread makes me laugh. Don't lump everyone in Ontario with folks from TO.
If you're from the country and have livestock, like most farmers I know from pioneer country Ottawa valley.
You would likely passionately call them "damn-yoats".

Even in Quebec walleye is the term used among english speakers. Dore (accent on the "e")is what francophones call them for their golden color. Google pickerel and see what you get,( outside of Ontario).

Pretty much my point....... and don't think this is directed at you, because it is not.....

Who gives a flying fark?........ we are all hunting and fishing and we live in one of the, if not the best countries in the world to do so...we should be celebrating together and not picking on each other over petty details.......

Hunting shows are made for a targeted audience. I haven't met a NA hunter who didn't know what a Kii-ute was, or one that didn't know that there are many common pronuniations, or a westerner who cared how someone else pronounced a word. An international hunter will usually leap on the local name of anything and start using it himself. Just about the last thing we want to do is change anything, because it is the differences that make different areas special.

Do you think that you're the first person from ontario who decided to reach out to the west and tell us we were wrong about something? That's been going on for centuries. Are you surprised when the response loosely translates to "we don't care, what you think"? Actually if you weren't surprised you would be the exception, since it seems to be solidly embedded in the DNA. I doubt if you're even aware you're doing it.

I don't really want to start a pissing match with you....and never said anyone was wrong about calling a coyote a ky-ute. What I feel is more poor form is the way a person, any person that is in a position to portray outdoor sportsmen and women to the nonhunting population as poor speaking rednecks. That stereotype however endearing you find it has been played out in my opinion, there is nothing more annoying than watching a person for 30mins perpetuate that stereotype and have it be ok because he's from Saskatchewan and " that's the way we say coyote... ky-ute" And as I said before I'm not just picking on Jason Peterson or westerners I feel the same when a dumbass redneck yank calls an Acorn a "Akern"

And one more thing as a hunter and an intelligent person,...as I know your are from reading your posts on this site......" you should care, not necessarily about what I think"
You should care about how others will think when you can't pronounce coyote correctly!

Then they can go along with the whole " he doesn't even know he's doing it" analogy you suggested about me!

I feel the same when a dumbass redneck yank calls an Acorn a "Akern"

So, because they may pronounce a word differently than you, based on a regional dialect, they are dumbass, redneck, yanks (more likely to be Rebs)???

Your not helping your case with your obtuse biggotry.
