The Rauch Tactical MultiMount Rail system is an optic mounting rail, which allows shooters to mount Russian mil-spec optics and optic mounts to VZ58 and variant rifles. It is designed to fill the desire of many shooters looking for a VZ58 scope mount. Key features of the MultiMount Rail system are the integral shell deflector, variable mounting height, its length and the movable return to zero stop. The shell deflector effectively and reliably changes the ejection path of spent casings by up to 50 degrees ensuring they do not contact the optic thus damaging it or changing the point of impact. The variable mounting height, length of the rail combined with the movable return to zero stop allow the shooter to effectively set the eye relief of their chosen optic in a comfortable and repeatable position. The rail bolts to the left side of the rifle’s receiver using 4 supplied bolts creating an extremely stable mounting point.
The rail is constructed of steel and parkerized for superior durability in the field.
Firstly the rail itself mounted. (Note: this deflector is not exactly what the final version will look like as this was the basis for our testing. I will post up pics of the final version when they are ready)
This is a good time to clarify that we designed the rail to mount in a variety of heights inside the lightning cut, you have about 3/8 of up/down play to work with. Depending on the mount or optic you choose different heights can work better then others. I will include how to choose what is best for you in the instructions that will accompany the rail as it can be confusing without having the rail and optic/mount in your hands.
Rail with the PK01 mount and 30mm optic from the mount side:

And centered:
The scope is a 1.25-4x30 Bushnell 4200 Elite, it has a 30mm tube. For me this is my favorite setup, mostly cause I'm left handed. There is room for a 40mm bell for sure if you want a larger aperture. Also there are ring reducers available so you can run an optic with a 1" tube, this is what John runs on his.

Rail with 6x42 PSO side view:
Rear View:
Both the PSO and POSP scopes are ~1/2" offset to the left. For me (left handed shooter) it wasn't the most comfortable but I had no issues and personally like the 4x24 on this rifle. The centered optic is more comfortable for me for obvious reasons. For about $200 shipped including the optic with mount its a good deal. Nice glass, good finish and very nice target turret system.
This picture shows the PKA red dot. I'll show two mounting points but you can choose 5 preset ones with the MultiMount rail. Side view rearmost setting:
Forward setting:
Rear view:
The offset with this optic is the same as the POSP. Decent red dot, especially for the price. Has that I'm gonna invade Georgia feeling.
This mount Kalinka calls the SKS/SVD Mount w/ 1" Rings, mounted is a Leupold 2-7x33. Side view:
Rear view:
Offset with this mount is ~3/8. A better fit for southpaws then the POSP/PSO optics and very solid.
Q: With the shell deflector will one be able to remove optics and still be able to use irons?
A: Yes, Irons should be unobstructed whether or not you remove the optic.
Price is $125 CAD plus shipping. We will announce it here when they are ready for sale and shipment.
Additional Information and pics:
I know that there are those who are nervous about drilling their receiver and for them we would like to assure you that this mount is designed to be combat ready, competition ready, hunting ready and generally abuse ready. I want the user to be able to drop their rifle while running, pick it up and hit their target. The designers, development team and production staff are comprised of highly skilled professionals. I want users to have the optic fail before this mount. Once mounted it is best to view it as just another part of your rifle.
For all interested buyers both commercial and personal, we are currently making a list of customers who would like to get one of the first batch of rails. If you want us to put your name next to one please send me an email at sean@rauchtactical.com.
We have found one of the best mounts available for mounting an optic on the rail is the PK01 mount. The mount is relatively light, puts a tube optic as close to and centered over the bore as possible while still allowing the rifle to be stripped without removing the optic. It is designed for the late model AK mounts but with some minor modifications which I will outline it works great on the MultiMount Rail. The offset rings are 30mm but with NC Star 30mm-1" inserts a 1" tube optic mounts perfectly
We took this mount:
And removed the brass spacer in the center. After some research the late model AK side rails have a relief for this ours does not and the piece is not necessary. With the piece in place it causes this mount not to sit flat on the dovetail and the optic will be offset about 1/8" or so. This mount was solid for over 500 rounds with no movement.
we also had to remove some material at the back of the mating surface to allow it to slide forward on the rail. No big deal, 1 minute with a grinder/dremmel.
Ignore the junk leapers scope, we just use it for mock ups.
This one is sold by Kalinka as the EST AK, SAIGA, VEPR Side Mount w/ Side Weaver Rail and 1" Rings, this info is a little misleading, it is made by the Tula factory in Russia.
Its a very good quality piece that is very solid with a relatively low profile on the side of the rifle. It has no sharp edges which is nice but is a bit heavy and it places the optic higher then on the other mounts I've tested (PK23 mount and the offset mount with integral 1" rings) it is designed to mount large bell optics on AKs. It does not quick detach but mounts very firm with a nice simple screw. Rings are 1" integral.
