It would be nice if all federal agencies bought the new FBI Glock 17. Add NY springs for those who want it and done. You would think that a bulk order of that size would drop the unit price significantly. That being said I would take a 5946 over our Inglis hi power any day.
I recall when they were transition training to semiautos. Bit of a gongshow, but I don't recall hearing of anyone shot. - dan
The 5946 was issued to people in Depot starting in late 1995. I was in Troop 11 95-96 and shared a dorm with Troop 5. They had already started to train on revolvers and had to switch. My troop started on 5946. Not sure when people in the field were issued 5946's.
I do know that there were a lot of older members who were very disappointed that they weren't able to buy their revolvers. Some of those fellows had carried their guns for a good many years. The gov't certainly knew how to increase the number of disgruntled members! I would have been pi$$ed too.
As far as the "heavy" trigger goes, it was never an issue with me. Some of the more interested members and I would go out to a gravel pit and practice with scenarios that required things like bailing out of a dead pc, drawing and firing at a milk jug while desperately trying to get to cover. Also firing at the bad guy milk jug while backpedaling, getting the shotgun out in a big hurry, changing mags, weak hand shooting, etc. Trust me, most people won't be able to tell if the trigger pulls heavy when firing to defend their lives.
I used to drill the Auxiliaries on getting the shotgun out in a hurry, getting my sidearm out of my holster. Practice helps relieve the fumble factor if a real life case pops up.
Ever try to change a mag with your strong hand out of commission, or draw from a retention holster with your weak hand? Only way I could draw was to undo all my belt keepers and try to pull the belt around a bit. I would likely have died right there in real life.

You would be the one in a hundred LE officer who takes training and personal safety seriously. Good on you to train yourself as well as train your aux.
I agree that when the adrenalin flows, a 12 lb trigger feels like air but, it is still a 12 lb trigger. To a panicked, ill trained person, they'll still miss.

I agree that not every police officer takes his firearms practice seriously, but to say one in a hundred is seriously mis-informed or just plain ignorant. Every guy in my office participates in our range days and take them very seriously - especially since all the carbine training was rolled in. Member are really starting to get it that our world is changing and every call has the potential to go sideways.

You are correct. My hyperbole went sideways there! Good thing I didn't say 1 in a million!
All the LE I personally know take training seriously and do so on their own time. But they are still in the minority.
Would you agree 1:10 instead? I'm not talking range qual but actually understanding their firearm.

There is a civvy version of the PX Storm. I believe the CBSA version is DA only. The civvy version is DA/SA with the restricted barrel.
I believe there are restricted barrelled versions of the 5946 floating around also on the EE from time to time but I may be mistaken.

I am a big fan of the 3rd Gen S&W's. Old fashioned stainless with light recoil and as accurate (DA/SA more so) as you are. Not pretty but they have a look and feel that those who are fans know and love. It's truly a shame that all of these 59's that will be removed from service can't be given a rebarrel job and sold to us and/or the LEO's that use them. Then again that makes too much sense for some.
