Re-Enacting - Anyone here do it?

Now that people are putting up pictures maybe I should too! I participate in French and Indian war re-enacting, 1812, WW1 and WW2 re-enacting. I went to my first WW1 re-enactment in November. It was in Pennsylvania at the Great War Associations site.

Look up Bydand Forever on Google.
Since I can no longer do "Front rank kneeling" I get to play Royal Artillery and fire our cannon. (can get down, but getting back up is not pretty) ;)

I have been doing it for 19 years, from French Indian Wars to WW2, sometimes you even get to do a movie or two. This summer we did the CBC Great War documentary in St-Bruno, Québec.
That was a lot of fun, I guess it will be on in July, Merry Christmas Jean!

Here's one I did for History channel a couple months ago, should be on in Feb. Took place in the original POW camp in Bowmannville. They had to push the shoot date back a month because when they started putting up the fences and guard tower the people in the old camp (now a Muslim school) chased the crew away thinking they were being interned. True story.

The SS uniforms probably made them a bit jumpy as well.
The ultimate piece of WW2 german kit would be one of those Ural motorbikes with sidecar. They are exactly the same as the BMW ones because the soviets took the whole factory back to russia and they have not changed anything.
You can even get them in camo with a machinegun mount and yes the sidecar wheel is driven so it works in snow. They are available in canada and are street legal. If I had one I would wear a german uniform and drive around town evry day in it.

We have 3 of them in our unit I think. SS uniform! Yeesh no, thats Grossdeutschland, a Wehrmacht Heer uniform, the cuff title is worn on the right and it has a breast eagle, no skull on the car either and the collar tabs are different. Muslims like the SS there was a legion of them and Himmler let them wear their turbans with the uniform, makes me laugh when the RCMP doesn't like the turban but the SS did ;)

I was at that movie shoot! I had a good time! The best part was the hand to hand fighting scenes! I had so much fun with that rubber baseball bat.:D Ya you Germans had it tough. As a Canadian solder all I had to do was sit around and watch you guys do all the work. :dancingbanana:

Hey Jeremy! Nice to hear from you and a Merry Xmas to you also. I missed the November tactical in Newville, PA because of work. I did do the Somme Event in October, got a chance to wear my new Pickelhaube from Hessen Antiques. Relived our night in the trenches, a bit colder than this summer and I was glad I had my Greatcoat. Photo was taken at dawn in the Anzac trenches, minus my Pickelhaube which is sitting on a sandbag to draw fire from Englander snipers. Jean.

Absolutely fascinating Gentlemen! I have never reenacted, but I have lent out some of my dewats and k98s for reenactors in the past. Will dig out some pics. Thanks for showing!

I know what you mean Klunk. I've been looking all over the web for WW1 re-enacting gear but there's just not any around. I've got people saying people re-enacting Germans can use Swedish tunics but I highly doubt that.

For the tommies there's absolutely dink. I've seen uniforms and gear for the AEF and French but oddly enough Britain seems left out of the loop.

SWEDISH TUNICS CAN BE ALTEREDTO LOOK WW1 OR WW2 GERMAN, MANY REENACTMENT GROUP WONT LET THEM AN-MORE, BUT GOOD REPRODUCTIONS ARE AVAILABLE .
I GOT 95% MY GEAR FER WW2 GERMAN /HEER/ARMY BUT NO GROUP IN MARITIME CANADA ........YET.

We don't allow Swedish stuff anymore. It's funny, I hear maritime poeple saying the same thing all the time, one of our members got posted out to CFB Gaetown too and he's got all his kit out there. I'm sure you'd have enough.

The movie company used Swedish modified tunics to look like WW1 uniforms for the Great War documentary and frankly they looked bloody awfull. As noted above most units I know no longer allow them to be used by their members, many quality reproductions are now available from many sources for WW1 and WW2.

Not to mention felt bloody awful! :D That Swedish wool is rough! How are those new repro WW1 Helmets? Any good? I know some of the German WW2 Chinese repros are awful.

The 1916 Stalhelms from SchipperFabrik are pretty decent, the ones from IMA are junk. The Pickelhaube from Hessen is decent for the price, but naturally the ones from GreatWar at double the price are definitely nicer (GW are to pricey bang around in the trenches really).

There is a real WW1 german helmet(with the big spike) at the Prince Albert museum and it is tiny like it was made for a child. I thought the museum had a great collection until I saw some of the pics of private collectons on this site.

i think we chatted before on the axis forum site? tried to email members you mentioned never heard back. also contacted the can-paras reenactors never heard back except if i wished to do there specific thing. if any contact let me know/pm or email, :dancingbanana: am game but a rookie.
thanks seasons best

I just want to ##### and moan for a minute about this myself, hoping one day things will coalesce out west here.

But I would love to get involved in a re-enactment group....without having to travel to ON or QC....lucky buggers...
