Re-Enacting - Anyone here do it?

Does anyone here actually do it? From what I've seen it looks like a blast to do.

I'd imagine it'd also be a good outlet for us to bore unsuspecting audiences to death with endless talk of the equipment used... which would help tone down the level of annoyance for spouses

... but then again... with the prices of some of that kit out there the fairer ### might just be tempted to run us through with our own bayonets. :eek:

I portray a soldier in the French and Indian War, 1756 - 1763. I am working on assembling the accoutrements for the War of 1812 and the American Civil War. It is an interesting hobby, sort of like experiential archeology or anthropology. Costs, per era, are around $1000, not including firearms, most people spend more than that:) My blackpowder club participates in many local events. The only aspects I find difficult is when I am in the public eye.

I dont have a clue where to put together a repro WW1 uniform...

Although my Weremacht Heer get-up is almost complete
 
I know what you mean Klunk. I've been looking all over the web for WW1 re-enacting gear but there's just not any around. I've got people saying people re-enacting Germans can use Swedish tunics but I highly doubt that.

For the tommies there's absolutely dink. I've seen uniforms and gear for the AEF and French but oddly enough Britain seems left out of the loop.
 
I'm just kitting myself out for Klunk's match in Wainwright in December. Last week my Pattern 37 Battledress came in from "What Price Glory". Very good quality, made in Pakistan. Now if only the base seamstress remembers how to sew accoutrements on Battledress :):):)

We are having a Rifle match in less than 2 weeks here in Wainhole

classes are scoped or unscoped....under .24 cal or over .24 cal

also...BP/single shot

Show up with an army gun and a uniform to match and we wave the match fees(which arent much anyway)
 
if you or your lady can sew , swedish surplus tunics can be converted into beginner level ww1 or ww2 german tunics, you just need to research a bit. samer idea for the swedish army trousers. easy to convert.
as i said this is a beginner level costume. if serios most reenactor groups insist you get better kitted out as you go along.
found a lot of my ww2 german gear on ebay, but MADE my own usa civil war uniform , 1 grey /1 blue, an my own buckskinner gear from scratch mostly.

I think Klunk should do some advertising on his December match personally! I know it would be very appreciated. At least 3 of us from the Hat are heading up to his "Battle of Pearl Harbour" match the first week in December. By the way Klunk, Alonzo and I were having a beer tuesday night discussing preparations for your match, and were were thinking that it should be the "Battle for Hong Kong Match". Just a thought.

I was reading old posts and noticed this. I do WW2 reenacting and it is a lot of fun. A lot of our guys are current or x-forces members and we study tactics and uniforms as well as carry out combat simulations. It can be a lot of fun and give you that much more insight into the stories without actually experiencing the carnage and knowing you can go home in a day or 2. We do it mostly in Ontario and Quebec, I know a few other little units forming outside of here but ours is one of the larger groups in the states and Canada now.

I do German because I got sick of being told my surrogate grandfather was a "nazi soldier" so now I go to high schools and explain the difference between nazis and German, we have no political bs in our group. There is also FSSF and Canadian reenactors, there is a small Russian group forming in Quebec too.

I have been doing it for 19 years, from French Indian Wars to WW2, sometimes you even get to do a movie or two. This summer we did the CBC Great War documentary in St-Bruno, Québec.
