I agree. They might work for pistol even though I think the mild steel is going to get both warped and pitted very fast. Small dimples are not what you want either. Any slight angle in the face will change the direction of the bullet after impact from what you thought it would do.
When it comes to steel targets, AR 500 is the only way to go. Not AR 200, not AR 400 but AR 500.

You MIGHT wanna re-think that. It will be swiss cheese in one shot. Mild steel and .223 equals HOLE.
Now, if you made those out of AR500... now THAT would be cool! (Abeit a litttle pricey)![]()
