Real CGN-wildcat-thread-soon-to-be-forum

yea know ultra buddy I normaly would stick up for good friends but I just got my dress pants back and cant see waiding waist deep into this ####pit  , oh and you hacked on lever guns ..I am partial to them myself

Well to be perfectly nasty about it I'll have that 88 finished by the time he comes up for muledeer.Iam not even gonna let him drool on it.Or my#25 rem Pump in 32-20 Or my #14 1/2 in 44-40 Or my 1899 savages or my 1895 wins aanon anon    Rich

I like the custom levers, pumps for me are just tools (but to each thier own). I have a 38-55 99 I'm working on now. If someone will lead me to a thread about posting pictures here (hey, I'm a slow learner), I'll post a picture of a Win 70 in 240 Gibbs, Ron Smith gain twist barrel, HS Precision stock. just for the sake of pushing this thread along (and posting pictures of those nasty, bolt guns). - Dan

how many off you have heard of the 338-378 kt?lv'e had a couple of these and they were very very fine caliber actually the most accurate hunting rifle l ever shot was a 338-378 kt which doug southen has now,the cartridge originally made by kieth and thompson, was based on the 378 weatherby case, but shortened so to fit in a magnum action, this is one powerfull cartridge ,loading it up with over a hundred grains of rl 22 and with the ability to shoot 250 grain bullets at over 3000 fps it would carry forever,l did try some 300 mk out of one and achieved over 3000 fps with one load, but it was my first kt and it didnt have a muzzle brake so that ended in a hurry.

Bullcoon, I read a magazine article in Rifle Magazine a while back about the .338/378. WOW  what a barnburner that is. Any time you can push a .338 slug of 250 gr at 3000 fps it's a killer. Looked it up in a refrence chart, the energy created would be approx. 4800 ft-lbs and a barnes XFB with a BC of .521 the damned things would live on forever.

well ultramag if you look at the specs l had on the one that casull owns now a 250 grain came out at over 3200 and would drive tacks and the 300 mk were coming out over 3000 also but its got a brake on it,and as you well know there not pleasant to shoot without them, and yes they do travel forever,so you can reach out and touch something.

   3200 FPS

What actions have you used Bullcoon? Does Remington 700 work? That case needs a ####ing big bolt face, long magazine, and feeding may be a problem as well.

I guess I guy could convert to single shot. 8)

ruger no 1 is the easiest ,but the majority of all mine were on reworked p17 actions , plenty long enough and the older remington 700 bolt face is all used up when you open it up and l wouldnt use it ultramag, and l dont know about the newer 700 actions though with the ultramag cases?

I've seen a couple of Rem 700's modified to use the 378 cases, they were set up as single shots. I never measured the bolt faces, but the rims looked very, very thin. Of course, that's just an opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I have a Sako TRG-S that I'm thinking of turning into a switch barrel rifle for the the 378 based cartridges (it's in 338 Lapua now). I've also used and had a couple of P14's set up for wildcats on these cases, and they work fine ( a lot of work, but they do the job). #1 's would be the easiest to do, and probably the cheapest. P14's/17's would be the cheapest to buy, but by the time you modify everything to work, you have a fair bit of money into them. I still like them for the big magmums tho'. - Dan

338\378

Just a quick post for you 338\378 lovers. I saw in a local paper today a 338\378 for sale. It's built on a Mauser action, douglas barrel, costum stock don't remember the scope,$650.
What drew it to my attention... its been for sale for a long time.
Maybe he's willing to deal.
Just thought I'd let you all know
PM me if your interested I'll find the add.

300 grain match king at 3000 fps. Does anybody have the slightest idea how many foot pounds of recoil that is. That would make a 458 win mag look like a pussycat. A friend
of ours has a 45-70 on a #1 Ruger he loads it so hot that 3 shots fired off a sandbag on your shoulder will pretty well #### the sand bag . Ask Dusty he fired it without one.

Yeah, I have heard of this being done, although I never seen it. Got a couple of 700's left that Bullcoon hasn't bought yet. :p Might have to try. Wasn't there a .338 Blackstar blank in the exchange a while back??

That would make a 458 win mag look like a pussycat

Hey Bonez, why don't you get the chamber deepened to .458 Lott?

Ahh the Lott or watts which is pretty well the same thing. Was developed to be able to shoot the 458 in Africa without the pressure problems they had with the short case.Of course you were supposed to load sensibly.

None of them around this part of the country. But then hey If I think it's gonna hurt there's always Dusty  I sold him a 375 h&h built on a 14 .He shot it just after his rotater cuff operation. Course you should have seen the other fool that followed us out to our range He had it about 1/2 inch from his shoulder when he touched it off.He only quit whining about it when I shot it about 3 times. It was quite pleasant to shoot In fact it was nicer than my 300win. A hell of a lot nicer than the plactic 300 weatherby.
