Real CGN-wildcat-thread-soon-to-be-forum

well off the hood shooting today didnt do a dam thing for eith 30-06 so no targets will be scanned and the 458 with iron sights managed to pull 2" @100 the last 3 -3shot groups I shot so not bad in my books for iron sights and off the hood of the truck..now youll excuse me while I sit back and snivel that my shoulder DOES F#$KING HURT after 23 rounds through the cannon

Thats a lot. My shoulder hurts after 20 rounds through my 7mm mag off the bench.
Now I have seen pictures of you and I am about the size of your leg not including the foot. That 458 would be punishing and probably break me in half. Makes me wonder about my dream 416 rigby ??

its actualy a big shove Jacky , no *KICK* atall , but 20+ rounds in a hour and bit is a few to many, I havent played with a williams peep sight in a while and adjusted it wrong a couple times like a meathead so had to keep shooting, now she hits about 2-3" high @ 100 in a 2" group every time , I am sure off a bench and better situation I could cram it into 1 1/2" maybe even 1" but for moose and bear 2" is just fine , hell its 400+ grains of lead I could hit him in the ass and pop a lung  , I am pondering a 1.5-5x20 leupold scope on it though , will be something to think about this winter , I am still pissed off about the 2 30-06s not grouping well, my son Chris did the best with about 3" off the hood but Irvin couldnt get under 4" , I think his scope is whooped personaly , he would get 2 maybe 3 fairly close together and then flyer every time no matter how long we let it cool down (it is a bubbad m17 30-06 so who knows how many rounds have gone through it !) Chrises I know I can load for and get to group under 1" just a matter of time and effort :D

Geez Bonez 2" groups with a .458 ain't bad is it. 8) What make .30/06 is Chris shooting?

ya jacky, you would be surprised how much recoild from a big bore you can handle, they are usually heavey and built better equiped for the pounding. I had a BRNO-602 that was a real pussycat. Very fun in the gopher patch. :D

Jacky, what game have you taken with your 7mm Mag? I bought mine two years ago, and still have not shot anything with it yet. Just targets, lol.. I allways seem to have another rifle in my hands when game run infront of me..

chris has a m17 30-06 custom shoped , fajen thumbhole stock and muzzle break

I just need to do some fine tuning and get a good bench other than minute of pick-up hood to do it right :p

thought it was a good first rifle for a 13 year old

Just to keep the thread going, I was shooting my 6-284 last Sunday (built on a Rem 788, with muzzle brake, I didn't build it, just bought it off the rack). Much easier on my shoulder then my boomers, was shooting 107 gr Hornady Amax's in front of W852 surplus powder. No luck chroney-ing the loads, too overcast. Good groups at 46 gr tho'. - Dan

Hey, I forgot my other "cats" !

I've also owned a 7tcu barrel for my contenders for some time, and I just picked up a 6.5tcu barrel at Elwood Eps when I was at Nationals. 8)

So now I'm in the market for 6.5tcu dies, if anybody has any let me know.

Hey I finally found some dies! I was dreading the thought of forking over $135.00US + shipping from the only source I could find. Then just the other day I did a search at The Accurate reloading forums and found a guy who bought a set at Lock, Stock, and Barrel.

Phoned them up the next day and I now have a set of Hornady 6.5TCU on the way for $46.00US! Very pleasant to deal with also.

Now if only the first 2 or 3 feet of snow would melt...... :x

Not sure how I missed this entire thread but I wished I would have asked a question here instead of precision rifles.

Anyone consider the 6.5wssm? Just wondering what you guys think. I have a donor rifle in 7mm Rum with a sporter barrel dying to be changed into something else. I'm between that and going with 223 rem. I could go with a 458 RUM  Kind of like a 458 Canadian. Anyone make a 458 RUM yet?

Anyone consider the 6.5wssm?

Although you won't be inventing something new, (just Google 6.5wssm for lots of reference material), why not? It appears that they use it for 1000yd matches so it should be a great long range round.

458 Rum googled shows no hits, so mabye you have your chance at fame! 8) The 458 ROBRUM :p

In case you hadn't noticed, some people are a little sensetive around the concept of wildcatting. :D They are a lot of fun IMHO.

Let us know what you decide on for the project.

Never one to leave something alone......
In true definition a "wildcat" is a cartridge that cannot fire any factory issued round and
Ackley- fied cases do not meet the true definition as one basically fires a factory case to form. That being said an ackleyfied cartridge is a great place to start into the wild and wacky world of wildcats.I say Go4it and start the heading!!
I currently load a few
6ppc tneck
22/250 AI TN fast twist
260AI saami neck
