Really? The end of cheap SKS's?

First WestRifle announcing the end of Soviet SKS imports due to the trouble in the Ukraine, and now Marstar announcing the end of the "$75 Chinese SKS" (that was never $75, when you considered the ammo crate that you had to buy was marked up more than anywhere else, it was really a $150-$160 SKS)...

So, is this it for the cheap SKS's?

Not particularly worried for myself. I have a nice 1952 Tula, shoots well, and don't need more than that for me.

It's just the timing of everything. First the RedCoats drop the hammer on the Swiss Arms and the 858's... Now the SKS's are drying up a month later, and by the looks of things, across the board.

What's going to be the next decent deal on semi-auto "milsurp-style" rifles? Any guesses? Not that the SAN's were what I would call a "deal" - but the 858's were pretty reasonably priced, and let's face it, for a semi-auto in a nice intermediate calibre, the SKS's were a great deal.

Is there something else on the horizon, or are the golden days really gone for good this time?

I don't think the Marstar deal means no more Chinese SKS. Rather, just no more package deals at that price.

As for the SKS in general... It will still be sold for a while. The Russian ones will eventually be harder to get. But will still be plentiful.

These deals always end. Anyone who was asleep at the switch for the past 4-5 years will have to pay more now, but at least they're plentiful.

Westrifle did Not say it was then end of the SKS, they said the price was going up in the future. If you're going to quote people, please get it right.

Even when they get to $300 in 10 years I will still be buying them. (but they won't anytime soon)
Another storage bunker of these rifles will be opened up for buying & they will still have to limit the import amounts to keep the prices from going down even more than what they are at now!
Don't worry about a thing... this run will die down a bit (prices will rise) & another will be on its way (prices will drop)

Guys 1949 Sks were always high. What I tell people is that Sks are going up in price. When you see them cheap buy them. This is all I said. Next run will be more expensive.
As cheap semi auto I can say that those days are running out. Buy it now and don't be sorry later.

uncertainty will always drive prices two ways but in this case upwards , the good thing is the Chinese SKS is plentiful and that will keep a lid on high it will go .

its a perfect storm for upwards ,

1. reclass of some VZ which uses the same ammo .
2. delay in the approval of VZ2008
3. turmoil in Ukraine .

I am happy I grabbed my high priced 1949 Tula when I could over a year ago. I should have bought 2, the ones that have come in since have not been as nice, but I may still snap one more up! :)

I used to be with you on that, but there's strong indications that the supply of the Chinese SKS's is starting to dry up, at least temporarily. That's coming as a signal not just from WestRifle, but some of the other dealers as well.

How many do you need? I've got 3 and they will last 3 lifetimes with regular use.
I'm kinda getting tired of SKS talk, so I look forward to the next surplus rifle to surface. Bring it on!

10 years for 300?.. M44 was moving from 160$ to almost 400$ in three years.
