Really? The end of cheap SKS's?

Just seems like all the imports are drying up at the same time.

Lots of pressure in the EU and UN to lean on countries holding stockpiles to stop selling them. The result will be that they get sold, but on the grey/black market instead of the open market in Western nations. The law of un-intended (maybe intended?) consequences. Guns are worth $$. Someone will want to collect that $$. Tighten up the rules and you won't be able to sell them to stable, transparent democracies - like NZ and Canada. So the alternative will be to sell them to countries that will gladly keep the transactions under wraps and flip the EU and UN the bird.

Anyway. The existing inventory in Canada will take a few months to work through all the retailers. Just hopping my tax refund processes in time to pick up one or two more before the price starts to climb.

At $400, an SKS is still a good deal. But I've got too much Scottish ancestry - I'm genetically hard wired to cheap out as much as humanly possible. Like my gramps used to say, "A true Scottsman hates 'cheap Jew' jokes. It's an insult to Scottish superiority in being cheap."

Got two chinese for 130.00 apiece plus tax a little while ago as part of a larger deal. Just this week added three russians for 150.00 apiece plus tax, also as part of a larger deal.

I think you can still find deals if you look but IMO the nicer examples are drying up and prices are rising in general.

That's it, I see an opportunity for me to make some money. Anyone who needs a good condition para model can buy mine. $700.00 plus shipping and any taxes from New Zealand. Plus the buyer will have to take me moose hunting. Buy now or pay more later.

Wow I'm glad I got my Chinese for $159 from wemajack 2 weeks ago. $229 for a Chinese is crazy!
I said many times in the last weeks that sks will follow in price the m44 that was moved from 159$ to 400$ and people do not belive that, now start to become reality.

Get them while you can guys. I'm not preaching doom and gloom, but they are surplus and they do run out. Lee Enfields used to be stacked like cords of wood and some thought they would never run out at 25 bucks each, and same with .303 ammo.

Who could predict whats happening in the Ukraine with Russia? Who is to say Chinese politics can't change? There are so many factors we have no control over, that predict the markets availability. I'm sure many countries would love to sell us their old rifles, its just not gonna happen.

If its a good price, buy it, along with its ammo to shoot.

I'm sure there's much more to be found in some Crappy Tires, lebaron, Wholesale Sports, etc..

Guys, there are LOTS still available. Call around or look around on EE. There's no shortage. I'm sure there's another shipment coming in as westrifle indicated in another thread. Don't believe the hype.

Not much has moved today. Perhaps the panic is over! :)

Canadian tire in remfrew has 3 1953 Tula sks. With sling, cleaning kit, ammo pouches and 3 stripper clips. Pretty sure they are 199. I'm picking up a 1950 that my buddy grabbed for me at a different cdn tire.

Seems to be local stock around here. They also have lots of ammo

Ya, but you are not (other People), LA has been around since the early 70's. Ask straight questions, and you will likely get straight answers. I have always had good dealings with them, buy hey, who am I !

Goin to have a look at a few at Can Tire tonight. Also Lever has an Investment package available, but too many bad experiences by other people has me very leery!

Don't worry about the continued supply of Russian SKS's, there is still plenty available, Canada is one of the few markets that they can be dumped into and when they bring them in they will still bring them in by the containers full to make the import as profitable as possible, all it means is there may be a period of lack of supply as it is that with the current problems in the Ukraine and Russia no importer/dealer is going to put a hefty deposit on a shipment that may take 6 months to a year before they can leave port. As soon as things get back to normal, and believe me the Russians are just as money hungry capitalists now as we are, we will see them flowing back in again. The price may be a little higher because of the drop in the Canadian dollar or it may stay the same as they might be feeling desperate to also get some hard cash that as they (the arms sellers) have bills to pay as well.

Also I think that dealer who had all those Chinese SKS's had them for a long time, probably was not making too much on them as they were probably slow sellers with everybody wanting a Russian SKS for not much more than a Chinese one was going for without any special deals. I don't blame him now that he has finally got rid of them for not wanting to bring more in until it is more worthwhile. The Chinese are also probably asking more per unit for the next shipment too.

I see all the dealers started hype things up about those SKS, my local shop has plenty.
I m just not gonna join the panic buy. sorry.
