Really? The end of cheap SKS's?

Well seeing as China wants double the price now, it isn't like we can get them cheaper from China.
Not sure about that, it depends on who is selling the surplus and who is controlling the tooling for the sks! If there is a buck to be made by putting on a run of sks, the same as the 305 or any other semi auto clone. So I don't see the surplus sks going above the clone prices. However in years to come, the originals will likely command a higher premium!
Either way, buy now while they are still below $200 and we won't have to worry about it!

Canam and marstar said so. China wanted double the price. Try to find a Chinese SKS for sale from a dealer right now. I bet you can't. Sold out and none coming in

The stuff in country right now are from previous russian version imports purchased at lower prices. The next imports will be priced according to what the exporter took for their cut, and the importer added for their profit.

So do you not believe norinco could build an sks for $400 ish if the had ready made tooling? I know there may be some political flak but money and jobs usually win out over there!

I'm not saying they won't sell what they have in stock. I'm saying our importers won't buy them. Because people here are conditioned to buy cheap SKS carbines and turn their nose up at the thought of paying more. We were lucky, and we got spoiled. And now there is denial that the gravy train could be over.

Except the haven't gotten any more for years so what they have is it! That drives prices up!

Yes they are getting some in, but they are from these "Other" source countries some seem to think it would be cheap and great to get them from. They are rusted, pitted, cracked and broken stocks, shot out bores etc. And they pay $250-$300 for them in that condition and are happy to do so. So I am tired of the whining about paying too much for what are in effect excellent shape, rugged, reliable, semi auto .30 caliber rifles that if were produced today to the same standard of fit and finish as the Russian and Chinese SKS would cost over $1000 to do so...

I'm not in denial, I just won't pay more than 280 including taxes.

There are still some nice Russians for sale out there for around the $200 mark, it seems unlikely that anyone would be unable to recoup that $200 in the future. How many things can you buy in life, use, enjoy and then sell for at least what you paid for it and most likely much more? Seems like a pretty low risk investment.

The last shipmest of rusian SKS are not nice, almost all are crap comparing with early shipments.

if you were to buy a laminate one and a normal wood one, which one would you not clean up and keep the cosmo on for storage?

the laminate has a harder, more durable stock so I am leaning towards the natural wood one for storage. wise? unwise?

If both were refurbs, clean em both and fire em. If they were both non-refurbs, I'd keep the laminate for storage and take out the normal wood. But that's just me, and I only base this because the laminates only came on 55/56 models to be true non-refurbs - so perhaps more desirable down the line.

SKS's have been artificially cheap because they have been dumping a glut of them. If somebody is going to produce new stock, they won't go for $200. Not only because the cost will prohibit that, but because the price on the circulating surplus will have risen and why would you sell a rifle for $200 when you could sell it for $300 or $400?

thank you, I will need to inquire and see if they are refurb or not before I buy. is it easy to tell if it's a refurb? i imagine the numbers just won't match easy as that?

will i need to take it apart to check this?

There may not have been as many As issued/ Non- refurb as the first ones and they may be heavily refurb with BBQ paint but still hardly crap in my opinion. Still excellent shooters. The ones they are getting access to in the States are crap, rusted, pitted, cracked and broken stocks etc coming from the hotter humid countries. The ones we have been getting are still relatively excellent rifles in comparison.
