Reasons for owning a dangerous game rifle in North America

I think the best reason for owning a dangerous game rifle in North America would be that North America is where you live. If you live anywhere else, you probably should own your dangerous game rifle in that place. This is also applicable to the rest of your guns.

I went to a gun show on Saturday and saw a beautiful rifle chambered in 375 H&H at a decent price. I almost bought it, and have regretted not buying it since then. Fortunately, I have contact info for the seller.

Of course, I have no real need for such a rifle. I already own multiple rifles, that cover just about every type of hunting that I will likely ever undertake. But who says (other than liberals) that you should only have firearms that you need.

So, in order to rationalize such a purchase, and although I do not need to provide any justifications to anyone, I am curious as to how I (or you) could spin it.

So here goes:

1. If climate change turns out to be as severe as most liberals say it is going to be, we might find ourselves hunting elephants and other pachyderms in Canada in our lifetime!
2. You have to be ready for when those polar bears start drifting south on floating ice pack, due to the rising level of the oceans and the general disruption of the world climate.
3. I might win a lottery and feel a sudden urge to go hunt in Africa. Got to familiarize myself with the rifle, just in case.
4. A moose can never be too dead!

A Moose can never be too dead!

Priceless but so true !

Cheers

Glad you mentioned cordite. That's why the H&H is the way it is, so they could use the now obsolete propellant cordite. An obsolete cartridge designed to use an obsolete propellant and that won't fit into all standard action rifles. Looking at the H&H case it really looks cobbled together compared to the 9.3x62 -a contemporary cartridge of the H&H. The H&H is tapered for the cordite strands which didn't leave much shoulder to headspace on so they added a belt to take care of their headspacing problem. Meanwhile the 9.3x62 has a case design that we more associate with a properly designed case.
.

As surprisingly correct as this comment may be...it ignores the fact that this is a large part of the charm of the H&H.

Sit in a deerstand with one...carry it for moose, bear, whatever...even creep across a clover pasture towards a 'chuck with one in your hands...and it is impossible not to think of Africa and lions and buffalo and a hundred other things that are brought to mind by the thing.

What will the Ruger round bring to mind? For me, only one clear image: slapping myself on the forehead and moaning "Wow! I could've had an H&H!!!" :)

To me, the Ruger will always just make me think of Gatehouse, and as much as I like the guy, I prefer visions of Africa too.

If a Walter Mitty lifestyle is your thing, then the H&H is perfect for you. :dancingbanana:

Reason #61: After buying ammo you really appreciate how much KD can help with the grocery bills.

I also occasionally shoot this .375 H&H barrel with cool anniversary Diavari but it is simply bo-ring.

I've also fired some 650gr BMG bullets through the .500 but they tend to stretch primer pockets and the brass ain't cheap. I might try those again with some Trailboss for some light thumper loads.

Here's some other factory stuff I've found, gotta buy it when you can.

Number one you have room in your safe . LOL. number 2 you can afford it . number 3 it turns your crank like a Hot woman and it won't leave with your house . number 4 you can sell it in the future for what you payed for it or for more. all of those answers are you need to justify buying that rifle. especially number 3.
