I have been reading some of the threads on here about barrels and feel that many people believe that a barrel is made of a very hard material and in fact all barrels are made from reasonable soft material.
Ron Smith and myself made a barrel out of a piece of rebar which was just for a joke but it turned out to work very well. I used it at Raton New Mexico and did fairly well with it in the competition. I was surprised to see an article published in March issue of Precision Shooting journal.
But I was even more surprised by the phone calls and emails wondering about it blowing up. And of course common sense must be used considering pressures, but if barrels were made of very hard material they would be very brittle and impossible to machine, is probably the simplest way of explaining it.
Ive had a lot of fun with this target gun at shows and in competitions and it has been something Ive wanted to do for many years. And thanks to my good friend Ron who sometimes "challenges my ideas" happened to have a weak moment and agree to give it a try.
