Exactly. Salt is water soluble.
Thus, water is the solution used to rinse away the salts.
Clean your sks after every shoot within a reasonable time frame and your kid's kids will be playing with it long after you're dead.
I go this route. I can't seem to let myself spray/pour/drizzle water in/over/through a firearm, even if it is a lowly chicom sks. When I run out of Hoppes I'm thinking about making a gallon of Ed's Red or some similar concoction of chemicals 
Yes and no. If you shoot corrosive, (and are coastal, dryer climates seem better) oils and solvents wont do sh!t, rust will spring up under the oil even. Water, dry, clean, oil. Hot water just evaporates better, less drying. Recently I bought a cz-858 from the maritimes, cleaned with wipeout and hoppes, no water. Wish I hadn't.
Me too, and it also gets easier and faster, each time.
Not to mention how fun it's getting.
Same here. I clean everything else while I wait for the kettle to boil. Dump water down the barrel and gas system, then clean as normal. I don't particularly enjoy cleaning after shooting corrosive but the time is worth the price of ammo.

Yup. Tried other methods but occasionally landed up with a little browning so had to do it again, or just give in and do the hot water.
So hot water it is. However, watch for pouring it over the wood - strips the f)@#$king varnish.

I didn't read all threads so if this is a repeat sorry in advance.....but i use WD40 if I'm lazy. Pull the gas tube and bolt, spray the bjezzus out of everything quick wipe and locker.
I'd clean it more thoroughly later (usually within the week) no rust yet, must be doing something right!?

Since I bought ammo from CanAm when he had his buy 2 crates, get third one free, I don't need to horde it. I will try the shoot 10 rounds of non-corrosive through it now.
Just shot my sks for the first time and did the boiling water trick and of course I had to mess up the finish on the wood covering the gas tube. Oh well live and learn. This rifle has just flew to the top of my favorite list. Can't wait to burn through some more ammo.
We all know about water (boiling, hot, cold, as windex, etc.) and know how well it works, and there's always the guys who claim that nothing special is required, e.g. Hoppes, Wipe-Out, (even wonderful WD-40 which can probably cure cancer), etc. do the trick.
Why not permit another idea? I can see how this would work on the bore and gas system, but am skeptical about the bolt, which I'd still give special attention.

Williams in Port Perry has the non corrosive MFS for $7.50 for a box of 20 or if you want to top up your surplus they sell the plastic sealed stripper packs for $4.50 for 20.
Krown rust proof spray works great as mentioned 10 bucks for a massive can of it.
