Recoil Pad's bipods questions

buy $5 worth of sandpaper and have at'it once you screw it on.....save yourself $80 :)
X2 but get a sanding block while your getting sandpaper should be right beside the sand paper

So if I just sand it, it will eventually shrink?

I think I would rather try that. I will see if maybe a friend of mine has a sander to make it even easier. I wonder what it's gonna look like when it's done though. Hopefully it looks good

for the price of what a gunsmith charges, you could afford to totally ruin this pad and buy another to try again

I assure you, with sandpaper on a hand held sanding block (no power tools), you'll not phuck it up. Takes a while, but a drop in the bucket compared to waiting almost a month for a gunsmith to do it...:)

just make sure you follow the rifles "lines" when you sand it the pad and stock have to flow together if you where here i could lend you a grinder and show you how but well its kinda hard to discribe online lol its a good idea to take a grease pen or soap stone and mark the backside*what goes towards the stock* that way you know kinda what the flow should look like

my smith must love me everything i have had done by him gets done right away lol

Get some of the hard thick sadpaper pads to fit on a block from the hardware store like the guys are saying. Get some real coarse (50 grit) some finer (100 grit) and some very fine (180 grit or more). Put the recoil pad on the stock. Get some black electrical tape or such and tape up the stock so you don't sand it. Start with the coarse stuff, get it close, then to medium then fine to make it smooth. A 6 pack and a couple dubies and it should be done:eek:

lol

thanks for the tip guys. Tomorrow I am gonna go see what I can get from crappy tire and try to do it. I am sure it is easy but it just takes time and I have never done it before. What about the back of the recoil pad, it's really hard plastic or something, just sand that down too?

lol this is funny. I should video tap this one.

:)

When you have the pad mounted on the rifle stock, wrap some masking tape around the stock next to the pad so your sandpaper wont scratch it and will rub on the tape instead .

Yes, you have :D

I know it's not nice to bug him, but it feels so right

Reading Riley's posts is kinda like watching jar jar binks. He's halfway between mildly amusing and intensely annoying, which pisses you off but not enough to wanna do something about it. At least with Riley we can bug him about his spelling :D

I have another quuestion. Do I sand the recoil pad when it is attached to the gun or off as I think it's suppost to be sanded when it's off but my friend thinks your suppost to do it, when it's on

You can do either, I used to prefer to do it on the stock and still do if I am going to do a refinsh job, or a new buttstock.
However, my eyesight is gonzo now, so I will stssrt grinding with the recoil pads off the wood too see if it is easier.

Ohh I never knew. I thought the vibration would kill the scope or something.

Well thank god you learn something new everyday
