A shoulder worn recoil pad protector does indeed works wonders on recoil.
Best solution if one cannot handle recoil from the rifle he's shooting will always be to buyone you CAN shoot comfortably. Turn the 7RM into a 7-08 or 6.5 something. Problem solved.
None of my rifles have breaks from 22lr to 458 win mag. I know brakes work, but for me they make too much noise and the common one make you bite dust when shooting prone.
Start small and light recoil wise and if need be go up! But 99% of game can be shot efficiently with 308 and its family 338 federal, 7mm08 etc

Recoil is mostly perception. A 7 Rem kicks about the same as a 30-06; you know that thing that everyone can shoot. Perception becomes reality when it hurts you though. First line of defence is a good recoil pad. It costs what it costs, but you’re done paying. It can make the difference between hating it and no big deal.
Muzzle brakes can take damn near all the recoil out of serious kickers. The best I’ve used are Kirby Allens painkillers. Ran one on my 375 Cheytac. Took the shoulder felt recoil
down to
243 level but would flatten the grass 30 feet each way and feel like you got hit by lightning and smoked in the head with a shovel at the same time. I’d rather take the kick to be honest.
