Hey guys, I’m looking for some first hand knowledge on quality pack frames. After hauling moose quarters over my shoulder out of a swamp this year I’m looking for something that will make the job easier. What do you guys use for hauling those heavy loads long distances? I’m currently looking at the eberlestock f1 mainframe and the badlands carbon ox frame. Hoping to hear some of your experiences with these or if there is a much better option I’d love to hear it. Thanks.

I would look at a kifaru duplex for something like that. Part it with a stryker bag for a bomber day hunting setup. Or look at barney's of Alaska if you just want a frame. Stay away from badlands

Stone Glacier. And you have an excellent pack for everything else.

Why stay away from Badlands? Just curious as I have 4 of their packs and love them. My carbon ox is heavy but I find it super comfortable and handles heavy loads well.

I've had a super day, 2200 and a stealth. They are cheaply made with inferior zippers. I've used their waranty twice which was quite painless but I would have rather not had to. Both waranty claims were for zippers. Keep in mind I never hauled quarters with them, just day pack loads. When it comes to moose quarters I want the best quality I an afford. Hence kifaru.

Interesting. Never had a zipper issue with any of mine and I've torqued on them pretty hard to close up a stuffed pack. I always thought the zippers were really nice on them. Good thing their warranty is so good but hopefully I don't run into that issue.

i stepped up in to the Exo mtn game... wowee.... i cant wait to do nz again with a proper well fitted , thooughtout frame pack for hunting.

changed my life, as i couldnt do this wiithout it

I use stone glacier although never had to haul out moose quarters on it, it packs a whole de-boned deer really well, is very comfortable just carrying my hunting gear around for the day. As mentioned above (Kifaru, Stone glacier, Exo mtn, seek outside, mchales, barneys ect.) are all top tier packs, it’s personal preference and how they fit to your body will be the deciding factor wether you think it’s worth it or not. For example If you spend $1000 on a stone glacier pack but it doesn’t fit your body or is uncomfortable to your body and you cant adjust it right to be comfortable then you will hate the frame/bag same goes with any top tier bags. It’s a shot in the dark because you cant go into the stores to try all these different bags out back to back or really load up the bag with weight in the store to get a feel on how the fit is.

Keep in mind most of these top tier bags are meat hauling capable the main bag will separate from the frame to strap your meat to the frame then you re-attach the bag and the meat sits in between the frame and bag, when your not carrying around meat it looks like a regular hunting bag. Also I know stone glacier you can ditch the bag say when you haul out the first load to camp you can ditch the bag section and just use the frame alone to haul the meat without needing to haul the bag section thus being able to drop more total weight.

Hauled out this particular deer 5kms 1 way, came back with all my hunting supplies and deer 1 trip.

I've been looking at a few. I like the idea of the Eberlestock with the batwing pouches for day hikes while still being able to haul meat, but I'm not married to any ecosystems or anything yet. I also don't really need anything featherweight either, it's not like I'm carrying a moose on my back anymore. I looked at the Cabela's frames and didn't like them, I'm not a fan of how they extend upwards. I haven't looked at anything beyond the "usual" Badlands, Eberlestock, and Cabela's brands. Another local shop has Mystery Ranch, but I believe you need to buy a full pack to get the frame? I can't see any frames as a stand-alone on their website. Also looking at Stone Glacier and Kifaru but nothing I can try locally, and I really don't want to have to do a back-and-forth with different frames if I don't have to.

If your looking for just a frame check out the horn hunter full curl pack. Bullet proof pack although not as light as the top tiers it can be used just a a frame( has bat wing bags) or with the smaller daypack attached or with the huge 75??L bag and lid and day pack....or in any configuration using any of the bags and can haul meat or sheds or a tree stand along with any or all the removable bags...mine has been totally bomb proof.

I can definitely say to stay away from the Alps meat hauler or whatever they call it now. The frame itself, while heavy, is strong but last year I started tearing the shoulder straps while packing out my elk. Most of the weight is on the hips with the shoulder straps basically keeping it tight to the body but still they starting coming apart. I was then told that because I bought it off ebay (brand new) that there was no warranty so I had to purchase replacement straps myself and now it's used just for lighter loads like hauling tree stands or bales and such. At least Badlands and other companies would have warrantied it regardless of where it was purchased or when.

Is yours the metal frame type? I have had the alos commander Z hybrid for 5 years now and packed quite a few loads in it and its held up fantastically well.. it's not the metal frame hauler w pack attached.

I've had good luck with the 2200 myself. Though I have never haul quarters with it I have haul a tone of bear bait over the last few years. No complaints for the money, but then again they used to be a lot cheaper.

Yes, metal frame. I've hauled a lot with it as well over the years. Lots of bales, tree stands, quarters, etc. I can't complain too much considering it was pretty cheap. I also have the pack that swaps out for the bat wings and have used it in that mode as well quite a few times. I'm still keeping it and have used it 6 times this year already with a lot more trips to go on it, I'll just keep the weight down a bit more than I was.

I was looking for a load carier hunting pack for a few years, read a bunch on them and decided to go with the EXO mountain gear k4800! I used it a few time for trial hikes and I like it, but I didn’t age a chance to use it in the field and with meat. That pack ticked all the boxes for me!
