Recommend me a 45-70.

I have a Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 but my 22" barreled T/C Contender carbine is my favorite 45-70 .

Hey - very similar to mine. Where'd you get the laminate stock, or was that a "stock" stock? I got one with the 20" Katahdin barrel. What a joy to carry, and great for west coast timber hunting. Open sights just don't fog up, and found it's pretty accurate too!! Super light weight, the kick is significant, but no issue until you put a scope on it. I think these are meant to be shot with open sights!!

I'd recommend the TC any day - has worked really well for me, though not as nice as a stainless ruger #1 I saw once.

I've never owned or shot a guide gun in 45-70, but i did have a 1894 cowboy 20" in 45 colt.....found it to be a little short... so sold it and got a 1894 cowboy with 24"barrel found this to be just right.
I do have a 2002 1895 cowboy with 26" octogon barrel which is very sweet to shoot and accurate.....but my all time favorite lever action is a 1895ss 45-70 with pistol grip and 22"barrel....my go to gun for hunting moose here in nfld. with 420 grain handloads at 1800 fps and a peep sight ...a moose under 200 yards is in serious trouble and it's nice to carry and pistol grip makes recoil more manageable than the straight grip of the cowboy....just my 2 cents worth...
