Recommend me an AR-15

Build your own! Without the optic, but with lots of strategic buying this baby cost me $604 without the optic

buy a Daniel Defence and never look back.
DDM4V5 is what i landed on after months of research. Found one on the EE for $1300 with some kit.
Milling is 2nd to none, and it will eat anything you put through it.
Check out some of the abuse videos on youtube, plus it has a hammer forged barrel so you have a very long and accurate life out of a single firearm assembly.
Just my 2 cents.
I bought a DD and am so thankful I did. Not a single complaint.

I just upgraded to my restricted licence and figured, what the hell, I'll get a AR. If for no other reason than it'll piss off a liberal.

I'm not looking for uber high end. Probably want to spend around $1000 +/-
I'm not interested in NEA, Norinco, or Dominion.
I've been looking at Armalite, Bushmaster, and Stag. So of these what would you recommend, why, and is there another brand I should be considering?

Spend the extra and buy and ATRS. Amazing construction quality and the accuracy is unreal.

If you want to go quite high end and accurate, Freedom Ventures is selling their STI ARs at below cost, to clear them out. High end stainless steel barrels, and JP trigger groups. 1100$ is all.

That's because nobody wants an STI AR. Probably the reason they quit making them. A search on the Internet for a review only comes up with a few results. Nobody even talks about them.

That looks awesome. I'm looking to buy or build my first ar. $604 is amazing, you must have been patient and smart about your parts purchases.

He used some Norinco parts to save money. You can buy a used complete Norc lower for $250 on the EE and uppers for around $400.
I personally wouldn't go that route but you do end up with a functional AR for a lot less money.

If you have the tools to put one together or at least know someone who does you can build one for around $1000 using North American built parts which will all be built to spec and won't need any fitting to put them together.
Just for an idea of the quality of Norc AR's I know two gunsmiths that refuse to touch them for any reason at all. They want nothing to do with them.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see a guy with a Norinco AR than no AR but if you can afford it I'd aim a little higher. There are a couple decent AR's on the EE now for $1000 or less.

A good optic on a budget is the Hi-Lux CMR 1-4 from Wolverine for $400 (might have gone up a little since I bought mine).
WW or DD would both serve you well for a long time.

Thats an interesting unit. I'm not sure if I want to out a scope on it though. I'm thinking red dot/holo. Thanks for the input though. So many decisions to make with AR's!

Lots of great deals on the EE lately. Saw a Stag the other day that if I had the cash if jump on or some of these old HBars.

@ cr5, thanks for all the good info.

At the moment I'm thinking WW, they have everything I want right at that $1000 mark.

I'm not in a huge rush to buy one right away. I probably won't get one till late summer. So my budjet has a strong possibility of going up. I've even thought about ditching my Tavor on the EE and going really high end.
But I'm just not sure I want to spend $2000-$3000 on a restricted rifle... Yet. ;)
Part of what appealed to me is that $1000 will get you into something "military grade".

I definetly have no interest in anything Chinese or NEA. I'd prefer something American made.

I have an NEA upper/lower with NEA BCG build (everything else is another brand) the machining is great, everything went right in with no issues. Some guys had some issues with older NEA products but it seems like they've upped their QC and are using some other vendors for their outsourced parts, I wouldn't write them off completely. They also have a fantastic warranty and incredible customer service if you do have issues.
I already have 3.5 AR's and an AR-10 and I'm tempted to grab that NEA on the EE for $600 or $650 (can't remember the exact price).
The most important parts of an AR are the barrel and trigger group. The rest is just there to support those two things. As long as it's built to spec it's as good as the rest.
Just ask Mikethebike about high end expensive AR's, he had issues with one which just shows any company can have a bad day. It's what they're willing to do to make it right when the customer has problems that I care about.

If you want to do a build I'm in the Edmonton area and have all the tools needed and can help you put one together if you want to buy the parts off the EE and build your own Franken AR exactly the way you dreamed it would be.

Yah best to ride the middle with ARs, I learned the hard way. But I learned none the least.

I actually just recently bought another AR, going to pick it up thursday.
