I've shot a 30-06, 308, 300 win mag. But never a 270. From what I've been reading it'll do everything the 308 will. A bit more of a flat shooter.
Just heard a lot of good things about it and the ammo isn't too expensive either.
Should I find a nice rifle in a different caliber I would be open to purchasing that one.
I'm pretty indifferent to it, but just set on the 270 as my top pick.
If I was you i would grab the browning stainless carbon fiber that Prophet has on consignment right now for $1000 no tax unfired. It's in .308 but will kill deer just the same.

Can't wait to be accepted into EE. Still waiting..... impatiently.
Why not the 270? One would be hard pressed to find a better deer rifle as was the stated intended purpose by the OP.Why do you want a 270 over say a 300 Winmag or 30:06?
Rob
Because it shoots as flat as a 300, recoils less than a 30-06, and kills deer just a well as both?
Ted
I know you are looking at the 270, but if I were looking in that caliber range a 7mm of some description would be my choice.
A T3 would be an excellent choice, esp in a 270 as they are all long actions.Should be able to find a T3 SS With a wood stock for $1000 or less.
Full stop here. Steyr Prohunter 270 Win 25.6" Black

The more I shoot mine the more I realize how truly overbuilt the actions really are. I think they would make a good base for any custom gun....no plastic, no weak links, everything done right and not on the cheap.
