Recommendation for my first 270 rifle? Price range $1000

If I was you i would grab the browning stainless carbon fiber that Prophet has on consignment right now for $1000 no tax unfired. It's in .308 but will kill deer just the same.

I think there was one around here or AOF in .270 too not too long ago, my sister in law has one in 30-06 or .270, I can't remember now, but also a very nice rifle, the carbon fibre is cosmetic, not real, but still a nice rifle

Prophet River should have divorce lawyer link on their website. Clay sells some great rifles at good prices.
 
North Pro has a lightly used T3 Tikka 270 win. Blued decals still on it for $749.I've got an A bolt,Carbon fluted X bolt in 270 and a Weatherby s2 and a T3 varmint. My favorite and most accurate is the Tikka hands down.

The problem with that is the cartridges. A 280 is the obvious counter to the 270, but there aren't a lot of cheaper rifles in the chambering, and ammo availability is way less. The 7mm08 is more available from a rifle perspective, but ammo is again uncommon and expensive. Finally, 7mm rem mag is great - both rifles and ammo is around - but its got more recoil and muzzle blast, and unless you are shooting at 350+ yards it doesnt really do anything the 270 can't.

For the reloader, 7mm all the way. But for the rest, a 270 is hard to beat for a flat shooting deer/bear/moose gun.
 
I'm choosing the 270 because it has the caliber range that suites my needs right now.
You need to remember I wrote "I just received my PAL in the mail". Which means I don't want anything that has to much recoil, something I can afford to shoot and practice a lot with and not develop a flinch.
I'm 5'10, 180lbs.
Once I've learned a bit more, I'll move around to the higher calibers and get the smaller .22 and so forth.
But for now, a .270 , papers shooting and deer hunting is what I'll be looking at doing at least until next year.
 
there is often rem 700 BDL and Adls in .270 on EE boards and they really shoot well, those older 700s 60s to 80s are well made rifles
 
All good points Tikka t3 SS wood stock w/ a Burris Fullfield E1 FTW.
I appreciate you like the 270, but it has about the same recoil as a 308.
Try out a 270. If it isn't for you, you can always sell it.

The actions are a copy of an older Sako design, that's why.
