Hey Calum... ya i tried my co-workers 10/22 Ruger and that is about that equiavalent of the ppl i know which have .22 . Unfortuantely not many ppl go to my range have .22 other then the rare times that i do see one, i guess that is why i would rather ask the Vets for their opinions and suggestions. I am actually surprised that aren't more ppl with Marline 795 that have yet to respond.... Anyone have any thought about this rifle?
OH i was just recommended Mossberg 702 , which fits my specs, anyone have any thoughts on Mossberg Semi-autos? have they got a good history?

I own a Thompson/Center Classic .22 - this is actually my second one. The first one had so many problems I sent it back to T/C and they replaced it. This one has been working flawlessly.

Overall it feels like it is built to a much higher standard than any on the Rugers I have handled at the gun stores. That being said, the only aftermarket accessories available for it are sight bases

I think your going to find that there are lots of NICE .22's out there.....

everyone is recommending the 10/22 because it is the most easily tuned for your own performance, from 25 or 50 rnd magazines to new stocks, sights and trigger packages... the 10/22 allows YOU to modify it any way you see fit.

not slagging any other .22 out there because the ones I have shot have all been great guns..... the only one I would not recommend is the ar-7.

Marlin makes a real nice gun, that thompson center one is a work of art..... but try to find after market stuff for them.

I'm sorry but I disagree with your assessment of the browning buckmark...

10 shot clips for a semi? Yawn....

Also I just think they are a pistol with a ridiculously long barrel, and a stock strangely tacked on.

My main selling feature on the 10/22 was the high cap mags...

Something about ripping through my 50 round drum thats very satisfying.

I've owned many .22s and I never liked an automatic as much as I like my Ruger.
It never jams, its accurate, light, and I've modded mine enough that it doesn't look like every other gun out there...millions of 10/22 owners can't be wrong...

Let me guess....you got a civic with a big ass tailpipe too, don't ya.

Yawn....PLEASE! I don't give a crap about emptying a 50 round drum of .22's oh...ahhhhh......(assuming you can keep it from jamming). Want satisfaction? Throw a 30 full of .223 in the AR .

Sorry man, but pimped out 10/22's with 50 rd drums are for mall ninjas.

Theres way better quality out there for less money.

And BTW...there is LOTS you can do to a buckmark rifle to tune it to your needs. Sure, you'll need more than a screwdriver and a 25 IQ to do it, And there arent may pieces to allow any guy with a hex wrench to turn his buckmark into an M-60....but there is lots.

How much would you have to spend to get a 10/22 even close to what this gun is stock?

Is THIS custom enough?

While I'm a huge Uber Mossberg Fan, I'm not impressed with there newest .22's, and they are NOT made by Mossberg, they are made by Magtech of Brazil, and the quality is hit or miss.

Here is everything you wanted to know about the 702.

Yah never know you might get lucky, and find a gem, but still be carefull of some of the parts when cleaning.

While at your local gunstore...have yah looked on the used rack for any of these? :)

Now there is nothing wrong with people wanting to build and modify stuff, and add their own personal touch to it, much like the hot rodding crowd.

But I have to ask if 10/22's where so good why do most people replace everything but the receivers? Pretty expensive receivers IMHO.

See Mossbergs, Browings, and Marlins where built way back when 'planed obsolescence' was not a -positive- marketing feature, and too many accessories, and mod kits would have been eyed with suspicion.

I know if my great grandfather was around today he would be saying "why not sell us the good gun in the first place"? :D

Think about this for a minute.

if I was a homosexual then I MIGHT think about buying a buckmark...... does not get ###er then a buckmark ;)
Good one. I have owned several 10/22s and a Marlin 7000. The Marlin is by far the most accurate of the two, but I hate the mags. I'm going to build up a 10/22 and see what that is like.

I strongly disagree. I have a Buckmark, and it has become my favourite plinker. It usually attracts (positive) attention at the range, by many folks that would easily dissect with extreme prejudice, anyone who called them a homosexual.
The Buckmark shoulders and points better than a lot of other rifles that I have had the opportunity to try out at the range, and has digested every type of ammo I have fed it with no functionality problems. The accuracy potential is excellent, and the trigger is exceptional.

All that having been said, I also have a Ruger 10/22 Deluxe - which I have had for 25+ years.

Both guns are, IMO, absolute keepers.

I'd truly enjoy having you come out to the range and shoot the Buckmark; or better yet, to watch you backpedal your a$$ off when the mean looking SOB with all the military hardware at the next bench, who likes the Buckmark, demostrates to you that he doesn't take kindly to being called ###.

Ooops sorry for the double post...
I think Mossbergs newest rifle is the 802, bolt action . Are you referring to the 702 as being made in Brazil? I like the 702's free floating barrel , additionaly is it as reliable as a 10/22? Also how long has mossberg been making rim fires? Funny thing is i recently bought a Mossberg Shotgun..

10/22 well proven..

I purchased my 10/22 in 1983. My 9 and 13 year old daughter now shoot the rifle. It's scratched-up and the blue is fading. The only modification is a williams peep sight. It's been through allot and is still accurate and reliable as ever. Go with the 10/22.

The 702, is made by Magtech of Brazil, I do like the looks of the 802 bolt action, and would love to try one. Not sure if the 802 is made by Magtech also, as I thought Magtech was focusing on ammo production, and getting out of the rifle making biz?

The 702 with synthetic stock felt lighter then the 10/22 synthetic stock, but the fit and finish was about the same IMHO.

The store I was in (Johnsons hardware Naniamo BC...now closed perm') was selling the 10/22 for around $300.00, and the 702 for around $149.00. Both felt like small rifles to me, while the older Mossbergs are more 'full sized'.

Check the site I listed in my earlier post, and you will see Mossberg was making .22's for a long long time...(late 20's) I believe. They even had US Army contracts for there 44, and 144 US .22's If you find one of them BUY IT without hesitation. :D

Right now the Mossberg company is USA building Shotguns, and their ATR rifle...I wish they would bring back their USA built .22s. :(

Yeah, hi-cap mags are only for mall ninjas:rolleyes:

And, BTW, once you have a good extractor, your 50s shouldn't jam. Honestly, mine almost never do.

Anways....back to out original thread...did you ever decide on anything

My bonus cheque is coming next week . So i got my choices down to:
1) Ruger 10/22
2) Marlin 795
3) Mossberg 702

The only draw back i hate about the ruger is the non lock back function of this rifle. I want to know if i am out of rounds or if its a hang fire. What do you guys think about the last 2 choices? i already know Ruger is the popular choice , but i want to hear what other have to say about the other options. I really wanted the Remington 597 b/c is had all the functions of the Ruger 10/22 and i liked how the magazine was flush with the stock like ther Ruger, but do to so many malfuncitons i hear of with this gun i could not bear to purcahse a gun which i knew would not work or break down most of the time or when i might acutally needed it.
