A bolt action, for accuracy, with a clip for ease of loading and unloading the rifle when getting into and out of the vehicle, is hard to beat. The good old Marlin lever, which has been made forever, is almost as accurate and has the advantage of faster between shots, but I could never figure out why this is important in a 22, is an excellent choice. Except for me, the tube mag is a disadvantage. I guess it depends what you want to do with it. For twenty years after WW2 organized target shooting with the 22 was big time, highly contested events. I never saw any rifle on the range that wasn't a BSA break action or a bolt action, such as the Winchester 52 for the heavy weights and the 69 for sporting.

I agree, the Win 52 is king, a Browning 52 repo made in the early 90's one came on the board a few months ago for $500 and i missed it, damn.

I forgot about lever action, I don't have any but they are fun to shoot too. I shot a Browning BL-22 a few times, well made rifle. I here the henry's are good as well and cheaper.

Well guys after some long thought and research i gave in and here is my final choice . I know alot of posts say some not some great things about this rifle . But seemingly most posts regarding FTF or FTE or numerous other posts are pre-2002. Anyhow the gun store owner put my fears to rest and said that remington got their act together and most 597 prob have been fixed with the new magazine and extractor. My rifle was built in 2005 so i took solice i knowing this. I took this baby out the same day i bought it ... Ran great with exception to 3 Fail to fire , which i chalk up to ammo, as my friend who brought her Ruger 10/22 also had same problems and we used the same type of ammo... Federal American Eagles. Anyhow here she is

Nice rifle! I have a laminated Stainless Steel model and it works like a dream. You will be very happy with your purchase, now all we need is somebody to start producing high cap mags for it!

Nah. An old Cooey is where it's at. Just add ammo. Scope optional (as was in my case)

My beast will feed, fire, and cycle ANYTHING as long as the mag is sitting in the sloppy well just so :p
